Right in the heart of the historic part of Churchtown village, this is a good little pub for lunch. We ate on a Saturday afternoon and although it was busy, it wasn’t rammed and there were still seats available. It’s a fairly big pub and has some seating outside for those sunny days. The menu is traditional pub options and is huge! It took a long time for us to decide as there was so much on — I don’t think they really need it to have that much. There were also a couple of specials on too. I was driving so went for cordial but they had one ale on from Ilkley Brewery which my other half went for which wasn’t too pricey. However a friend got a pint of Peroni which was a ridiculous £4.10! Excessive for generic lager in my view. The food was pretty good and service fairly good but the toilets were a bit rundown and the car park a bit haphazard. I would go back if I was eating but not for drinks as there are places selling better beer these days in Southport.

Dont get me wrong this pub is decorated well looks cosy inside and the foods good but its definitely lost some of the charm and character it used to have. I used to visit this pub along with the bold arms which is opposite for sunday lunch and quiets drinks with my family when growing up, i remember having a yummy sunday roast next to a roaring fire in a quaint lovely place! Its sad to say but now i think its been commercialised into a trendy gastro pub which isnt always bad but the pub and area have so much history i think its a shame! I think its trying to attract a lets say a better off crowd or more poncey crowd(no offence!) but i like the way it used to be in my childhood memories :’) ill just stick to the Bold Arms!!!

A very historic pub in the heart of Churchtown. Opposite Meols Hall and near St Cuthberts Church there is centuries of history here. The pub has recently been refurbished, is top spec so far as cosy warm feel but also adheres to the ‘trendy gastro pub’ style of the clever chains down south. This ‘yuppie’ style contrasts the working mans classic, The Bold Arms almost opposite. The choice is yours.

An excellent traditional pub in Churchtown, Southport — almost opposite the Bold, also a great place and not dissimilar. Food, real ales, wonderfully friendly staff. Quiet, cosy — a most relaxing place to while away a few hours.
