As well as being a language, I always think the word ‘esperanto’ sounds like some kind of Spanish horse that is really fast, like Black Beauty but with a Latino flavour. Anyway, Esperantos in this case is the name of a lovely restaurant in the quiet suburb of Ainsdale, just past Formby. Esperantos is small but cosy enough and specialises in Italian and Spanish cuisine with an English twist. I have visited here on a few occasions and have always been delighted with the quality of the food, with the chef’s reliance on using fresh, home-grown ingredients resulting in tasty dishes that are full of flavour. Esperantos offers the usual mix of pizzas and pasta dishes — margherita, carbonara and bolognese are all in attendance — but they also offer a range of meat dishes that use thick, juicy pieces of meat(their steak is a particular favourite of mine, the best I’ve tasted around these parts). I once tried the Cajun chicken which was particularly succulent and covered in melted cheese, delicious. These dishes can also be washed down by a selection of beers and wines at a very reasonable price and with Esperantos open for lunch and dinner, a great meal can be had at whatever time of day.
