Large carvery restaurant pub, once nicely decorated now showing its age a bit, attached to a Premier Inn so am surprised its not been turned into a Beefeater. Limited real ale very london biased and not great quality. Menu very limited, really needs a make over.

Stayed next door and drank and ate at this pub/restaurant and had a great time. The place is huge, and there are plenty of seats and booths. Had the breakfast buffet and the carvary and all meals were absolutely great. Lots to choose from and really tasty. Staff were friendly, helpful and chatty.

What a truly awful lunch experience. Went for lunch, had a 40min wait for our food, which i found strange as we were two of about 10 people in the place. A couple who arrived twenty minutes after us received their food first. Once the food arrived, it was stone cold, and the chips raw. Sent back. The fish was bland and seemed slightly under cooked in the middle. Needless to say, later on i was welcomed with stomach cramps and vomiting. NEVEREATINGHEREAGAIN.

Great for a cheap sunday lunch carvery. Good food and reasonable service and not at all expensive

For a pub it’s very nice but also very expesive, a burger is the cheapest item on the menu in the evnings and is over £5 closer to £10 in fact. The choices for healthy options are somewhat limited but the food is consistently good whereas in the past it was hit and miss. The staff are ok but could be a bit more friendly. I host a monthly car meet there and they still don’t seem to recognise the group or know when to expect them!

the recently decorated halfway house is a vast improvement over the old one. The food is much better, the decoration is lighter and more modern and offers an improved bar experience. The only downside is the cost of food has gone up since the new management came in but i think it is a fair deal

Hopefully this place will continue to impress now that it’ got new management in and has had a refit and been re-decorated, as in the past it wasn’t much to write home about. The food has definatly improved, though I still feel it could be improved further, considering the somewhat high prices,(though not sky high). The staff are always rushing around it seems when I’m in there too, so perhaps some more staff to cope with the busy periods would be nice. Overall, it’s a great place for a meal or a drink with friends and family, and has a fairly good atmosphere.

I like the latest incarnation of The Halfway. The beer is good, the grub plentiful and cheap. the reduction on carvery food for the over 50s is handy for me. Nice views from inside when the weather is inclement. Places to sit outside too. This is the 5th or 6th makeover its had in last 20 years and i think so far the best.

Great pub located near central Southend and Southend beach. A nearby Premier Inn so easy to find for people visting the area. Recently went here for a Sunday lunch with my grandparents and the Halfway House offers a great Carvery roast on a Sunday and has a great atmosphere, even they were impressed. The staff here are friendly and polite which made a lasting impression on them both and they had a pleasent afternoon out. Would recommend to anyone that is looking for a traditional but at the same time modern pub! Especially great on those sunny Sunday afternoons in the summer.

Love a carvery. Have had many lunches at the Halfway House. Great idea is the diamond club for over 50’s! Makes it good value meal, variety of choice. Do think desserts are overpriced. Now have to have a receipt for carvery, was this because people were going back for more!

Need a Carvery? Then the Halfway House fulfills this need adequately, aligned with a Premier Lodge in the car park area and located with a sea view this pub has a lot going for it. Ideal for families eating out, the food on the carvery will no doubt leave you bloated on leaving. Outdoor terraces allow even the smokers to have a decent view of the sea.

As a pub, it’s pretty average. It’s on the seafront so it’s a nice venue to relax on the patio with a drink. They serve food in the bar, mainly baguettes which are so-so. They also have a carvery which is superb. There are huge turkeys, hams and joints of beef to choose from and the vegetable/trimmings selection is huge and replenished regularly. Starters are charged on top of the carvery and I would suggest you give these a miss, particularly the salad bar which leaves a lot to be desired. The carvery is extremely busy on a Sunday afternoon, but you can eat in the pub if the restaurant is full. However, be prepared to queue for a while for your food.
