The Varsity

Large pub on the corner of the Bedford place area. Lots of seating and comfy sofas.
Lunch is good and cheap here. I have often been with a friend as the food is so cheap but reasonable and the bucket of chips with different toppings is amazing! It is also good for just a hot drink and a cake.
At night time especially weekends it can get busy and it is almost impossible to get served. Drink is reasonable and if you get a V Card which costs £1 drinks are cheaper.
They show lots of the sporting events, so if you got a night out but don’t want to miss the sport on TV you can go here.

If you’re a student in Southampton then this is a must-​visit. Many a pub lunch days were had in my student years. It has a fairly young clientele because of this but it is also a very trendy pub. Its quite big and spacious, and the staff are nice (gorgeous too!). Its not the cheapest place to go to, and can get quite busy on the weekends but the Pub Grub is quite delicious. Definately worth checking out.

located where the old natwest bank used to be, this is a large-​ish venue with cheap drinks a plenty. Unfortunately one of those annoying establishments that insist you posses a £1 v-​card to gain discounts on drinks. This is so tedious as every year you have to buy another card and bulk up your wallet with more — near pointless plastic.
The venue plays your usual cheezy music most nights with some house fri night. Staff are generally ok, students mostly with silly tight red tshirts!

Varsity in London Road is in a great location on London Road, and can often regularly be absolutely packed especially at weekends, and is worth avoiding as you will end up waiting an age to be served at the bar.
At other times its pretty good, they have plenty of large comfy sofas and other seating. Great for watching sport on, they show most the football matches on huge tv screens and it isn’t too loud either!
Prices are a little expensive unless you have a v-​card then they become reasonable. The v-​card is only £1 and you can use it again and again to save money!
The drinks choice is pretty good for variety but they inevitably have a few off most the times I’ve been there.
The food is good value for the size of portions, so if you like buckets of food this is the place to go! and its not bad quality either!
