This place has been on my to do list for a good while and am glad it was part of my list. Bunnychow is South African themed in which they put a hollowed out bread piece and fill with meat and vegetables and other ingredients. You can also choose the bread each having a unique taste and health benefits. I went for the Bobotie Meatball on Gym Bunny bread which was basically wholemeal with protein. It was delicious especially with the Monkey BBQ Sauce they have. I paid £6 which is alright, but it would be great if they had a meal deal for lunch. They have sides such as chicken wings, pork ribs and meatballs(for £3 each) to go with your loaf if a loaf alone doesn’t fill you up which is handy. They have several drinks from mocktails such as the cucumber Castle Beer/Stout. One thing that wasn’t on there at the time was the lamb mutton which is well known in South Africa and is surprising in that it’s not on the menu at the moment. Unusual but a great place to get something different for lunch or a snack even.

This was a very interesting breakfast this morning. Now what is Bunnychow? You know I was confused myself… It’s stuff in a bowl made of bread basically, but I mean I like stuff and I like bread, so no complaints. It’s actually a South African style of food I found out and while a little unusual to my British ways was a really nice change. I decided to go for the full English in the brioche style bread and it was really tasty. We also got a yogurt pot each which had a nice balance of sweet and sour fruits though the two were a little too filling together for me first thing in the morning. The juices were also really delicious, I had cocoanut and lime and could go back for one of those alone. Unusual but definitely worth a try

I was looking forward to trying Bunnychow because after being in London for a few months, I was craving some food with flavor. A South African place that promised street food«crammed with big flavors» and had appetizing pictures seemed like the perfect choice. I got to try both the chakalaka chicken bunny and the one with Durban mutton curry. Both were incredibly and disappointingly BLAND. The bread was a bit stale and the meat was not even that warm. Most of all the overall lack of flavor made this a sad waste of money. It was nothing special, and I couldn’t even qualify it as even being«okay».

Amazing concept. They started their business in the Boxpark in Shoreditch and got quite popular. They moved their place to here and I must say I was quite impressed. It’s great how they present it ‘street food style’ and make it such a cool place to sit down and have a bite and drink. Had myself a nice bun stuffed with pulled pork for lunch and it was great. Also took some type of ginger juice which I really liked. Cool staff, cool music, nice interior and what a mighty metaphorical name they have ;-)

Looking for somewhere to have something quick for dinner I settled for bunnychow on wardour street which specialises in South African street food. The signature dish being bunnychow, a hollowed loaf filled with stew. I opted for a charcoal brioche loaf filled with Durban mutton curry and coriander salad plus a side of piri piri pork ribs. Both the mutton and ribs lacked flavour as if they had not been marinaded at all and were not even warm. The mutton was tough and bland, the brioche loaf was dry and stale tasting without any sign of the buttery fluffy texture one would expect of brioche bread?! I was also not impressed with either the biltong or the cucumber mojito consisting of cucumber, mint, lime zest, elderflower and juniper berries. Again the biltong lacked seasoning/flavour whilst the cucumber mojito was dominated by the bitter taste of cucumber skin & lime zest. If you must try this place you might be interested to note that they have a bowl of loyalty badges located with the self service cutlery and sauces counter which gives 20% discount on your order.

Summary: This review is only for breakfast. I was super excited to go here for breakfast with my +1 as I’ve never had«bunnies» nor really South African food. I found, however, the food to be rather bland and lukewarm despite noone else being there. It also wasn’t very unique — pretty much just a regular English breakfast stuffed into a bunny and served with pickled cabbage. I would go back to try some of the lunch/dinner options because other’s reviewed this place so well, but wouldn’t go back for breakfast again nor recommend it. —-DETAILS — - FOOD: We had the English Breakfast bunny + Vegetarian breakfast bunny. The latter two were lukewarm and a bit bland. They weren’t awful, but also nothing special(just a meh regular breakfast). DRINKS: We had the spiced juice + elderflower/grapefruit juice. The elderflower/grapefruit juice was too sweet, but had an interesting flavor and the spiced juice was pretty good. SERVICE: Meh — nothing special, but nothing bad. ATMOSPHERE: Casual. Fast food place — love the pictures and posters on the wall though!

It’s Street food inside so when you get your canteen… HOLDONTOTHATSUCKER! These smooth natural wood tables will have that good food sliding all over the place. And some of these patrons… go werewolf on these dishes! Meal drink and a side £10! — Yes please

Having spent some time in South Africa, I was very excited to try Bunnychow and had, admittedly, high expectations. Unfortunately, I found the space a bit cramped. At 13:00 on a Friday, the spot was packed and nearly impossible for a group of 4 to eat.(We eventually snagged a table, luckily right before our food was done.) Also, the music is really loud, so it’s hard to talk with your friends. The menu is small, and they were out of one of the bunnychow filling options. Their slow-roasted pork was really only meh. It was tough to eat with the toppings overflowing, as well. The chicken was the best of the pork, chicken, and veggie options and wasn’t particularly spicy. In terms of sides, the Bobotie meatballs were really good. I found the wings a bit fatty. Their South African pudding was rice pudding, whereas I was hoping for malva pudding. I appreciate the unique menu — and the South African beers! — but I’d likely hunt out a different South African place if I had another opporutnity.

I found Bunnyshow while looking for a nice brunch place in Soho. It looked nice from the outside and lured us inside. Bunnyshow is a South African street food restaurant. I had never experienced South African food before and i know nothing about it but i was rather satisfied with the discovery. You have two choices in the way of eating the dish: in the bunny(a bread bowl) or with rice. Mary G. and i aren’t big fans of bread so we opted for the rice and were well pleased. I chose the Chakalaka(spicy chicken and tomato but not too spicy so don’t worry about a burning mouth) with a kind of coleslaw topping. It costs £5 and it’s excellent. I had a Green Mamba with it(Cucumber, Mint, Lime, Elderflower & Juniper Berries alcohol free cocktail with a possibility of having an alcoholic one) for £2.5. The staff was friendly and the place offers a nice sitting area. I have to say i liked their plates style, all metal/industrial and the south african music was a good tune to eat to. I couldn’t finish it as i have a small appetite and took the rest to go. I was happy to have some left for later, this is how good i thought it was. I will definitely come back to try the rest.

I don’t really know a lot about South African food, and especially not South African fast food, but if it’s like this, then I am a fan. Here’s what they’ve done. Basically, made a bread bowl and filled it with tons of delicious ingredients. I like all of these things, and I especially like them together. I got the beef and it was tasty and I devoured the whole thing. Staff is friendly, food comes out fast, it’s kind of a quirky fun environment. It’s never going to be gourmet but it is going to be delicious.

It was OK a trendy little place to eat. Now I know what Bunny chow is. South African street food fast, a hollowed out loaf of bread filled with curry. Durban Indian community is where it is from.

This place is never going to get 5* from me due to the type of restaurant — quick food, collected from the counter — but for what it is it is great! A choice of 3 types of bread hollowed out and stuffed with a filling of your choice — sounds odd? Well it tastes bladdy brilliant! My bf and I went here after some early evening shopping and fancied something quick and cheap. For only £5 you get a lot of food and especially a lot of meat. We ordered the pulled pork in brioche and the curried mutton in white. The latter definitely being the best so would recommend! Comes with a little coleslaw, mango chutney and poppadoms on top and is so filling! If I worked closer I would definitely get one of these for a lunch time treat. Recommend for work lunches, on the go dinners and cheap weekend snacks! Will definitely be back and looking forward to trying their other fillings!

Place is usually packed, really lived the idea of filled loafs of bread! Prices are considerably cheap for central london(5−7£) specially soho! The service was wow! Order was late not even 4 mins and tbey brought us complimentary food/snacks… Really good… As for taste, really happy and fulifiling! Some of the items run out fast in the menu, so consider eating earlier than busy lunch/dinner hours.

I found this restaurant one day while I was browsing Google maps. I wanted to see what was close to a shop that I thought we’d be spending a lot of time at, and saw the name. Curious, I clicked on the link, and instantly knew that this would be something my husband would want — nay, need — to try. We got our chance late on a Saturday. We were actually afraid they’d be closed, but they were still going strong. We placed our order right away — the Piri Piri Pork Bunny for me, the Chakalaka Bunny for him, plus a side of «scratchings» to share. We paid the tab then found a couple of seats along the window to sit and relax until our food was ready. It didn’t take long before they called out our name. My husband went to pick up the items while I tested out the hot sauce they had on the table(super spicy, good flavor, paired well with the bunny!) I was initially afraid that the food wouldn’t be enough, but once it landed in front of me, I realized I needn’t have worried. It’s a lot of food! One bun stuffed full of meats and veggies and other delicious items, plus a rather large cup of pork cracklings… I couldn’t even finish the bun that holds the thing together, and most of you know that I LOVE me some bread! The bunnys do make a bit of a mess, especially if you’re trying to dig in to mix everything up. The pork within my bunny had a good flavor, and the veggies on top were just shy of being overpowering. And adding the aforementioned hot sauce just made it even better. The«scratchings» were delicious, as well. My husband has a deep love for pork cracklings, and these were the real deal, and fresh to boot! They dust them with chili powder and I think maybe a garlic powder, and serve them up hot and fresh. It’s making my mouth water just thinking about it. My husband loved his meal, as well, and no problems finishing everything off. All in all, it was a decent and relatively cheap meal(for London standards). The only tick against would be an issue when they ran our card. They accidentally canceled the charge(lucky for them we ate in!) and had to have us come back up to re-swipe it. We of course kept an eye on the charges to make sure we weren’t double-billed, and we weren’t, but it was kind of a confusing instance.

what is a bunny chow you might be asking? It’s a South African fast food dish consisting of a hollowed out loaf of bread filled with curry, or in the case of here, lots of other delicious fillings. They’ve won an award and had a tonne of column inches dedicated to their innovative full English bunny; sausage, bacon, mushrooms, beans, tomato black pudding and a fried egg which is available all day long. Can you say yum? The menu itself is small with only five options including that famous breakfast bunny. Unusually for me I went for the vegetarian option which was blooming amazing; cauliflower, chickpea, potato and paneer cheese in a spicy sauce topped with mango chutney and poppadoms. I hardly ever go for vegetarian options but this was incredible. Extremely flavourful without being too spicy with a great texture combination between the hard potato and soft cheese. The hardest part is figuring how to eat it — there is no right or wrong way — I started out by spooning out the filling but soon gave up and just picked the whole thing up and started munching! Portion size looks small but it’s deceptively filling and the best part? Super cheap! A bunnychow costs just £5(£4 for the breakfast bunny) and drinks start from as little as a quid. I opted for a fresh green mamba; Peppermint & Earl Grey tea with a splash of lemon juice. Really refreshing and would make an excellent cocktail which they will actually quite happily do as you can add a spirit for just an extra £2! Where else in London can you get a freshly made cocktail for just £4?! Service was speedy; they take your name at time of ordering then call it out when ready and this place totally heads straight to my number one spot for cheap eats in Central London. I’m sure this is just the first of many, many visits!

Unusual flavours delivered in a different way. Okay so the curry was a tiny bit dry, a little too sweet but mostly along the lines of a typical Malay curry from Durban, some of the meats were out of stock but it’s new and already starting to get busy. The best thing on the menu is the Breakfast Bunny — filling and tasty. Hop along there now, you won’t be disappointed. I was there a few of times — partly because I couldn’t believe how good value it is.

Bunnychow is a South African street food restaurant in Soho that offers interesting flavours, packed in tasty buns. If you are tired of burgers, burritos and other current food trends, Bunnychow might be the place you will enjoy. Located on Wardour Street in busy Soho, Bunnychow is a great addition to the London food scene, I think. The little restaurant offers South African street food — I have no idea how authentic it is, but I like it! The range of dishes is somewhat limited to different flavours of the same thing: a bun filled with something. As I had never been there before and had no idea about the food, it took me a while to put together my order. While I was standing and wondering, the very supportive staff helped me by guiding me through the menu and also offering me tasters. I could not decide between the Chakalaka chicken filling and the pulled pork filling. After eating a few bites of the two fillings, I was not much wiser, because I liked both. At the end, I went for the chicken option. To go with my food, I chose the Madiba’s juice, and exciting mix of grapefruit, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. When my dish was ready, my name was called out and I could collect my order from the counter. It came on a nice and practical plate and basically was really a bun used as a bowl and filled with a juicy filling in combination with a fruity and crispy topping. It tasted great, and being a fan of bread, I liked the idea of the food. After finishing off my bun bowl, I was very satisfied with my visit to Bunnychow and will definitely go again. It probably also makes a great snack for takeaway.

Good location and friendly staff with unusual food options but… not really a place I would be keen to return to– everything I tried was far too spicy for me(without warning). Even the chicken salad I tried(in pic) with quinoa and pesto would have been really tasty had it not been for the spicy addition(had really not expected it in an otherwise nice salad which seemed quite healthy). The chow bowls themselves have a lot of heat as does even the popcorn. And no bathroom.

A few friends decided to meet us for lunch here with no expectations as to its quality — but just that we thought it sounded interesting. I had heard that traditional bunnychow is huge — a half loaf of bread or more — full of curry or stew. This is the lunch version, with rolls hollowed out instead giving you an adequate feed for a mere £5. I’m by no means an expert on South African cuisine, so don’t know how traditional or authentic this is — all I can say is that it tasted great! I had a mutton curry in my white roll — it tasted fantastic especially with the coriander-based salad which you could add on top. Piri-piri and«Monkeygland» sauces were readily available to eat up the side slaw or salad with, too. All of this combined to make a great meal worthy of a £5 lunch. The only downside to the lunch I had was the bread — promised to be crispy on the outside — was a little stale & soft on the outside, but I still ate it up covered in the sauce from my curry. I also tried their ribs which disappeared in my mouth(and my belly!) — in a good way; they fell off the bone and tasted nice with the spicy sauce provided. The drinks were rather throwaway — tasty enough but nothing special, and a little watery, given the price of them. But all in all, a good eat for a good price. I’ll be back!
