Bloaters Of Sidford

The establishment was clean. The servers were nice.
The wait for this takeaway was a little lengthy, but we didn’t mind! We were excited! We couldn’t wait to get to our house and tuck into our fish and chips and enjoy a magnificent feast!
Despite what looked like a gorgeous batter, the letdown came when I examined and bit into my fish which turned out to be little more than a battered deep-​fried fish skeleton. There were scarcely over 3 [tiny] bites of actual fish flesh on it. The chips, however, were very good.
Another friend of ours had the same problem with his fish from Bloaters that night — it contained only a few more actual bites of fish than mine did! It was a letdown and disappointment to be sure, to say nothing of the inconvenience and all the money wasted.
And while we understand that any restaurant or takeaway can have an off day or a bad day, the reason for the 2 stars is, anyone battering a fish could easily figure out that 2 or 3 tiny bites on what is otherwise a long fish skeleton should not be battered, deep-​fried and sold to a customer.
