This Co-op had a refit in 2010 and seems all the better for it. I agree the previous reviews were correct at the time, but the selection of groceries seem much better now, as does the balance between ‘convenience food’ and larger items; Let’s face it, few people now do all their shopping at the small, local Co-op. Previously I was generally disappointed by the fruit/veg sold in this shop, as it all seemed past it’s best, and many other items seemed a little ‘short-dated’ but now everything is as fresh you would expect. There are new fridges, and more of them, with a seemingly larger range of beer/wines too. They could still do with having more bread, as I sometimes see they are sold out of all but certain items by mid-afternoon, and for a local shop, I think that can be a bit disappointing. The staff are invariably friendly. On average, I visit this shop about 4 times a week, so they must be doing something right!

I echo the thoughts of the other review. If you want non-essentials like lottery tickets, sweets, canned goods etc then this place is fine. You are often struggling if you want fresh goods, fruit and veg or items for meals however. They seem to be very hit and miss on stock of these sort of items and being only a small shop, don’t have the greatest range of choice. The staff are always friendly and helpful and it is open handy hours. They handily do have a cash machine, but like the stock, its often hit and miss as to whether or not the machine will be working. They now stock a range of newspapers following the closure of the newsagents opposite.

If you want sweets, pop, lottery tickets or something in a tin then you’re fine relying on this co-op. However, if you want bread, fresh fruit and vegetables or the use of a cash machine, I’d probably go elsewhere as the facility to buy or use these things is slightly hit and miss. The wine selection is also quite limited and they very rarely have any chilling in the fridge. The shop on Thorpe House is much better. The staff are friendly on Derbyshire Lane though.
