This is my local, I live round corner and find the beer and price to be very reasonable and they have some really good bands that suit all tastes. A very traditional English boozer.

Great place, you have the regular oldies and the students who have just turned 18, coming in for a drink. Love this place in the summer, the beer garden is kissed by the sun all day long

After moving away from Scarborough last summer, I was extremely happy, when returning for a holiday, that the Tap & Spile is still a fantastic pub. The pub seems to be fighting the recession as it appears to have expanded business by now offering home cooked food. The food is really reasonably priced, and i really enjoyed the sunday lunch. The Tap is a good local pub, a lovely landlord, great live music and great food. Definitley miss it now i’ve moved away!

I simply adore the quaint pub that is the Tap & Spile. It’s such a nice, friendly little place but what stands out most for me is how friendly and approachable the staff are. Especially, the landlord– he’s fabulous especially in his fancy dress. Its camp as christmas. I really enjoy the live music because i am a musician and its fabulous too see other local musicians. There is a good range of music, and all the locals adore it as much as me. Sundays at the tap are better than church, and i’m a catholic. =D They’ve recently started serving home cooked food. Its cheap and of a high quality. Overall i really ADORE the Tap & Spile.

This has to be the most expensive public house I have ever been into and also one of the dreariest. Following a hard days work last week I popped in with some business colleagues. I ordered a Guinness — of which they had none left — so I ordered three pints of bitter and was amazed to get less than a pound back from a ten pound note. The barman agreed it was expensive and blamed the Über-company Enterprise. The beer was just awful too. No life in it whatsoever and as flat as a pancake. There also appears to be snacks blu-tacked to the wall behind the bar. These keep falling off which is most amusing and so, so Chintzy. Was going to try the food but on glancing at the menu I saw that it was strewn with spelling mistakes so I feared for the quality of it if they could not even spell it. The staff seemed amiable enough but the two I saw were very scruffy with hair all over the place. They also had that ‘let me out of here look’ in their eyes. Never saw the licensee or hide or hair of any kitchen staff. Music advertised. Including my party there were less than 10 of us in the establishment between 6 – 8 on a midweek evening.

Very expensive pub which has died a death since the departure of it’s last landlord and the death of its’ music scene. The current landlord is very experienced and also has the pub over the road. Unfortunately he appears to have no passion for the job and his standard of beer keeping is poor. On paper there is a very good choice of real ale but rarely is it on form as I do not believe he keeps it well, cleans his lines after every barrel, has poorly trained bar staff who seem to think it should be served flat. The food here was awful and they stopped for a while but now have relaunched rubbish with chips — do not bother with it. The music is also back but the old crowd pullers no longer play here. A shame, and I hope it gets better. July 2009 — An addition added some 2 month later — in fairness there has been an improved menu recently. The above is in the past tense and was ended with ‘I hope it gets better’. If it is poor ale even the best bar staff in the world cannot pour it well. The beer here is very hit and miss and when you are lucky enough to be in when the pint you want is on, it will usually be off. I would estimate one out of five pints I have ordered in the past two months has been a good pint.
