The members of staff have a terrible, moody teenager attitude. I asked if they were serving lunch and was given the wisecrack answer of ‘evidently as there are menus everywhere’. When I challenged this terrible behaviour, both the member of staff and the manager personally insulted me. The ‘manager’ then made me replay the incident with the member of staff in front of customers and the general public. I will never darken their doorstep again! NOT even worthy of one star!

I love this place. Location, location, location. It’s a simple pub. Not many frills. not the best beer selection on draft but some good bottles. The food is not bad(burgers I can speak of). The pool table gets going as well. They’ve some big parties/events that get crazy~ Posted around the washrooms. But what makes the place is the atmosphere next to the River. It’s really just a beautiful place. And it is as good at 3pm on a Tuesday in the Summer as it is at 10pm on a midterm Friday. Indeed, better. Apples & oranges, I know. I love just sitting out with a pint on the picnic tables, reading a book, looking out. Truly an oasis. In the late afternoon it can be rowdy with«blokes» from uni and the area. Less of an «oasis» but no less of a good time. If it gets too much for you,(carefully?) stumble across to the Crescent and have a proper pint. Certainly one of the most unique pubs in the city.

Some pubs are just so studenty that as a student, you feel like you part own them. This is certainly the case for the Pint Pot, located in the midst of the university musos and journos. That said, in the evenings it does have the tendency to attract Salford locals, mainly for the football matches shown. In the later summer months the place gets eerily quiet, proving how much it relies on students. But the student vibe is what makes it so special and doubtless during term time you’ll find plenty of wide-eyed hopefuls playing pool between lectures and munching on the extremely reasonably priced grub. People ask if you’re a Pint Pot or Crescent person, but I’m both. The Pint Pot has the advantage of outdoor seating, and if Salford gets a hint of sunshine, the benches outside provide a fantastic place to sit and reflect, overlooking the surprisingly pretty River Irwell and the looming university buildings. Inside, you’ve got both the bar area and plenty of places to sit, all with excellent views of the TV screens, as well as many a table on which to dine. The food is pretty standard, kind of like meals you’d heat up at home, but a treat for students, with prices certainly reflecting the clientele. Many a time I’ve had a lovely lunch in there during my uni days. One thing you should be sure to catch at the Pint Pot is the music exams. The performances are held in the upstairs area, and it’s a free gig, of which I’ve enjoyed plenty. Also it gives you an idea of the quality and talent of the music courses at Salford. You’d be surprised. I know I was.

I’m looking for places for my 84 yr old mother and 50 yr old brother to sit for a few hours while my nephew does three hours at Salford Uni each day and I would certainly recomment this lovely friendly pub by the river. It was good enough for me and my contempories when I attended Salford Uni. The price of alcohol was fair and some evening meals free for students(don’t know if that’s the case today — but I’ve had many a free but tasty chilli — there). Lovely memories.

Had many a decent pint in here when dodging leactures from the main University campus which is just a little further down the road. If i remember, there is also the Blackhorse across the road which was decent enough from what i recall. Compared to the general average Salford boozers that i spent time in, The Old Pint Pot has a friendlier, more inclusive atmostphere and the opportunity to enjoy the sun outside on the odd day that it appears! Does help to be student-friendly, though, if you’re thinking of going.

Time was the Irwell flowed black and frothy like a river of Guinness. Those were the bad days when Salford was so polluted Manchester council wanted to rename it as City Irwell or some nonsense for better pr. Even now it is one of the few places in the country where people can’t sell their houses. But the old pint pot sits above a lovely clean Irwell, and you can sit and sip your pints watching the river flow. Best not to go in spring or you’ll get mouths full of greenfly from the trees(don’t walk along the crescent for the same reason.)
