The clock tower was a really interesting place to visit and the very low entrance charge made it excellent value. You need to climb a spiral staircase that is very narrow indeed with limited headroom. There are refuges with exhibitions and ancient things to see including the lovely bellfry. The exhibitions are very interesting and the view from the top is panoramic, including the catedral. This is a must-see attraction if you are vidieing St. Albans when it is open, and you can manage the stairs. Do allow enough time for a leisured visit though. It is not possible for two people to pass on the staircase and you may have to wait for other people, who may be slow, to ascend or descend before you can move up or down to the next level.

Opened in1412, is the Clock Tower, the only medieval clock tower in the UK started its life as a signaling tower using an array of mirrors. It. was turned into a clock 1700 Open Saturdays, Sundays and I believe BH Mondays the clock is looked after and run by a group of volunteers. Only about 70ft high the sprialling stair case is very narrow! I squeezed my way to the top just fine. But WATCHYOURHEAD stepping out at the top! From the top you can see numerous sights but none greater than the Cathedral itself. There is a nice map feature at the top which allows you to put names to the many sights that you can see from the top. BIGTIP! nearly at the top of the stairs is the bell room, do not be anywhere near there 15−30−45 minutes past or ONTHEHOUR! You will be deafly sorry. Its only £1 for adults and well worth the visit. Your kids may get to ring the 32lb Market Bell which was made in 1729. Not for the disabled.
