A long time ago(Well, the late 80’s and 90’s this pub was called Gullivers, and it was a scary place, so scary in fact that people would cross the road rather than walk past. It was you see Rochdale’s resident Biker/Metal/Punk pub, and thus the best pub that has ever been spewed onto Drake street! I started going in there in the summer of 1990, because one balmy Saturday night I was walking past when somone standing outside recognised me and asked me if I wanted a pint(Stupid question!). It stayed as Gullivers until about 1994 and then it changed it’s owner, and it’s name to The Mucky Duck. The clientel stayed pretty much the same(Now with added Skins) but it wasn’t quite as rough as it was back in the day. If you went in there of a weekend then you were going to have a very good time(Assuming you liked the music blasting out of the jukebox). Then in about 1999 it closed down only to re open as part of the Last Orders chain, never to be the same again. Then lo and behold, it was rebranded again as, wait for it… The Mucky Duck! Yay! So a month ago whilst myself and Mrs Z were having a trip down memory lane(Basically a town centre pub crawl), and popped into the new and improved Mucky Duck, I say new and improved, I mean mind numbingly terrible and tedious! We were greeted by a cacophony of dance music and ‘normal’ people popping up the bar, normal? pah! not on my watch! It was probably the fastest i’ve ever drank a bottle of Newkie so much in a rush we were to get out of the place. Tut tut tut, not fit to hold the name The Mucky Duck:(
