This is the most disappointing restaurant i have been to in years. An Italian restaurant that runs out of pasta, obviously not made on site. We ordered a starter of spinach and mushroom dip with french bread. It took 50 minutes to arrive and it was could best be described as Campbells mushroom soup with little flecks of green in it that i guess was spinach. No-one in our party of six could eat it. After waiting for our plates to be cleared for another 30 minutes and devoid of all alcohol by now we had had enough. On complaining to manager he wavered the drinks bill, and i had refused to pay for food and we left. We may have been unlucky but it will be a long time before i go back to see if that was the case.

We visited Ask for the first time last week using a 2-for-1 voucher. We sat outside at the back of the property which was really nice. Service was friendly although not so efficient e.g. we were served quickly although many around us afterwards we not, and we also needed to pay at the front desk as we waited for a while without anyone being around. Wine was quite expensive ~£18 for a reasonable bottle. Food was hot and very tasty. A nice place to go, a good branch of ASK.

Really not a fan of this place. It is in a beautiful building, but the food is just standard chain restaurant food. I like to think that a chef has put some effort into making the meal I’m paying for, not just whacked any old thing in the oven which is the feeling I get in Ask. That said, it’s fine if you’re just looking for a very quick bite to eat.

One thing I like about Ask is you always know what you’re going to get – a good, solid meal. Not quite gourmet, but really, really good nonetheless. The Reigate branch is in a beautiful old building, which adds to what has always been a pleasant dining experience. One warning – it can get quite busy on weekends, so you might want to either arrive early or pre-book.

Reigate is full of restaurants. Ask is one of the more classier establishments. When I was last here I was in a group of 10 people. The service provided by the waiting team was excellent, and we were not left waiting for too long. As a restaurant it tends to favour an Italian menu, focusing on pizza and pasta. I went for the spaghetti carbonara and was mightily impressed. I always think a sign of a good restaurant is the fact that one is left adequately filled, but yet is still salivating for more. It is probably an ideal type of romantic restaurant date type thing, as the setting and the mood of the lighting account for that in my view. But it is still a good place to go in a group, with a tasty menu.
