Lovely to sit outside in the summer. Great food, great atmosphere.

My sister lives locally and this is one of the two pubs I visit within about 10 miles of her(the other being the incomparable Fleece at Bretforton). Real ales, good ciders(Stowford Press and Thatcher’s Gold) and quality, cheap, unpretentious food, and lots and lots of choice. I recently took my mother out here and she had chicken breast filled with ham and cheese that looked very appetising, while I took a risk on pan-fried chicken strips(I’m a very finicky eater) and it was excellent. Three mains came to about £25, super value. Free doorstops of bread & butter are always welcome and, while it was still too warm for a fire, I know from experience that sitting next to the large fireplace on a winter’s evening is a great place to read a good book and sup a pint. Why Not, indeed!

We wanted to eat out but me being a veggie and my partner liking his meat we ended up as normal finding it difficult to decide. Having recently moved into the Astwood Bank area we decided to drive over to the Why Not and check it out. There was a vast menu with sufficient choice for veggies or fish eaters. My partner had a fillet steak and spoke of it being the best he had ever tasted!!! On paying the bill we spoke to the owner who told us that he purchased all the food locally, which I must admit added to the enjoyment of the whole eatting out experience. Since that first visit we have been back several times and the standard of food has never slipped. A truly enjoyable and friendly place to visit.

This a really friendly, inviting, warm country pub, on the outskirts of astwood bank. The food is home cooked, with a wide menu, which changes depending on whats in season. They often have lots of fish dishes on th menu. The bar staff are really friendly and welcoming. They have a basket out with free bread and butter, which is a favourite of mine– sometimes i fill up on the bread and butter and then am not very hungry!
