Café Blue, now sporting a brighter shade of azure, is the newly renamed café, formerly Café Nino. So back with a fresh lick of paint and a name change, they’re still the same friendly bunch inside with no el Niño to be seen by the likes of local parent and baby groups. It’s a very welcoming spot with baskets of toys in the back room. Equally great for grannies and people like me catching up on my Twitter stats, sorry I meant work emails… on my laptop with their wi-fi. Before long, pedestrians of Purley will be acCOSTA’d with chains along the way of this strip of shops, but I’d much prefer supporting this local café and keeping Café Blue in the pink. Although this place is just a day café, it sure does seem to have potential for a night bistro space share too; Comfortably set out as a restaurant entertainment space, it could be great for a pop-up space in the evenings too. Watch this space!

Come here most Saturdays(and sometimes Sunday) for breakfast. Really personable family feel café. Food is good, not 5 star restaurant quality but its not a 5 star restaurant! Breakfasts are good and that’s testament to the regular faces you see in there every week. With Costa popping up everywhere there’s a challenge for the independent however I won’t be straying from Nino’s!
