Great food and great dessert. Service was okay even though forced. 12 people agreed this was a great choice. All the pastas and desserts were on point.

A truly authentic independent Italian restaurant nestled in the stunning Port Solent marina. O Sole Mio continues to impress my family and I with it’s ‘home cooked’ real authentic Italian cuisine. From the moment you step through the door to calming Italian music you get a feeling this experience is going to be a great one and it doesn’t disappoint. This restaurant is often packed full of customers on the weekends and with good reasonto start with the Owner is Italian and so are the majority of his staff. We’re off to a good start already Having eaten many times in who are fast becoming more commonly coined as ‘the plastic Italians’ such as Zizzi, Ask or Prezzo, there is a monumental difference in the quality of the food when you eat here. For starters they hand make every pizza from scratch and the garlic bread is to die for as they use natural garlic butter. It took only one meal and a perfectly reasonable bill to convert my family and I. The menu.superb. The service.excellent. The costthe same as any chain or less. The food. so authentic it takes me back to my holiday in Venice during Carnival week. My only con would be the quirky décor. I’ll be honest, it’s an acquired taste. I believe they should have followed the Italian tradition and gone more low key rather than looking like the bizarre cross between a tourist gift shop and a terracotta pot factory but once you take a mouthful of their delicious meals you quickly forget your surroundings. I believe this to be one of the most authentic Italian restaurants in the region and highly recommend it. In summary, if you’re searching for one of the finest hidden gems in Italian cuisine in the Portsmouth region then your search is over. O Sole Mio is an absolute star on all accounts but the décor, which I believe could easily be improved by applying the ‘less is more’ philosophy. You will not feel short changed here and will thouroughly enjoy your mealif only you could get a table, make sure you BOOK.
