Just arrived home and our party of 6 have decided we will not be going back their again. The food was OK, but they wanted to charge a £1 for a glass of tap water. The rice arrived after we had eaten most of out main course and the final nail in the coffin was they took it that our 9 yr old was over 145 cm and charged us an adults price for her.(even saw them at one table with a measuring stick) we did not argue but having just measured our girl she’s 144 cm so we were over charged. I can see why the place was quiet on a Saturday night, after many visits they do little to encourage you to return, because in a recession it’s the little things that make all the difference and having spent over a £100 you would at least expect to get a free glass of tap water. For the sake of a free glass of water I will be taking my £100’s elsewhere.

There is no denying it; I am a man who loves his food. When that food happens to be located in an all-you-can-eat Chinese restaurant, I can seldom leave the house without the aid of a drool bucket. Pontyclun’s Taste of the East is one of those restaurants. Standing tall in place of the old Bute Arms, the restaurant itself also doubles up as a take-away service, offering healthy competition for the numerous other take-away outlets that live nearby. However, the real attraction is their famous«endless banquet». Okay, so it may just be a simple re-wording of the old«all-you-can-eat» moniker, but in place of the usual buffet carts of lukewarm noodles we have come to expect from ordinary all-you-can-eat service, each dish is made to order so you are guaranteed a freshly cooked meal every time. Led by general manager, Benny Wong, the staff are both friendly and courteous, with a good enough sense of humour to offer helpful advice on chopstick techniques where needed. The variety of Oriental cuisine on offer is enough to tempt even the strictest of dieters into a pig-like feeding frenzy. If each dish here is truly an accurate taste of the East, then it looks like next year’s holiday has booked itself.

Very nice indeed, good value for money with the all you can eat option. Good service to boot.
