Went into Administration in Spring 2010. As at June 2010 there has been no announcement as to whether the business will continue in any form.

An old school style department store, are you being served style if you know what I mean. Bit odd when you walk in the main entrance, feels a bit like it’s about 40 years behind it’s rivals such as Debenhams, House of Fraser etc. Good range of stock, but all looks a bit like it’s not very well sorted out. We were after nursery items, unfortunately we had to wait an age to get any help, only to find out that they were sold out of just about everything, very annoying. Not a bad shop, not sure how much longer it can cope with competing against far better organised competitors though.

Or as we used to call it — The Co-op! It has really not changed that much in forty odd years. it still has many good departments and they have the odd sale here and there and you can usually find what you are looking for, either in the store departments or the concessions. the(Farah?) suit department is particularly good value

I find this branch ever so slightly oppressive! It’s so dark and gloomyIt’s a shame because it’s a really reliable family store, however I’m not sure there’s many teenagers who’d be happy shopping thereIt needs a bit of an update.

This store is a great department store, but at the same time it isnt way too big. It is easy to find what you are looking for and there is always plenty of staff to assist you if required. The shop is well laid out and its nice to have postal services inside. There is a good café which is reasonably priced for a quick snack or a little more. The only downside with this shop is the fact that it wont open on sundays unless its the run up to christmas. Overall though its the best department store in town

I generally go here to get fabric as there isn’t many other places in Plymouth where fabric is sold. Would prefer a much wider range though as it is fairly limited. Also, find the general feel of the store a bit depressing — could do with a bit of tarting up in my opinion.

This place has been here years, or what seems to be years! I was really worried at first as to whether this place would shut due to the new multi-million pound shopping complex. I am so glad it’s still here! It provides an all round mini complex of a few shops and even a travel agent, argos and post office. I find that it is helpful to have this down the bottom end of town as it is a long trek back up to the top of town to go and post something! It is quite varied and people of all ages seem to like coming here, they have a new modern café in the middle which is nice.

An excellent shop at the bottom of town, totally refurbished ten years ago, with many floors and departments. Everything under the one roof: clothes for all the family; cookshop and homeware, soft furnishings, beds, gifts — even a watch repairer, travel agents, post office and chiropodist! The Haberdashery & Crafts floor is my favourite — it’s one of the best you’ll find anywhere. A lovely choice of yarns, pattern books, cottons, etc.
