This is a beautiful looking shop, with the wonderfully crafted harps on sale viewable through the large glass window pains. Even without the slightest interest in learning the harp, people can be forgiven for being interested in wanting to get a closer look of this magical instrument. Once inside this small, yet friendly feeling shop, the relaxing ambience brushes aside any stresses or worries you might have been carrying before you entered. With a clearly well-thought out selection of instruments available, predominantly those with strings such as guitars and the aforementioned harps, this shops feels as genuine as one could possibly imagine. For those fortunate enough to play instruments, there’s a great selection of music books available, with plenty of classic and contemporary artists and musicians to choose from. The staff are friendly and unintimidating, so browsing around this delightful little shop isn’t frowned upon.

When it comes to musical instrument shops, there’s a lot to be said for service. In the more popular, wider-known stores such as Cranes, there’s an unfortunate tendency for snootiness to set in amongst the staff. That distasteful though that goes«we are the instrument masters, and you people want to come and get your grubby fingers all over them? Eugh! Peasants!» And Cranes has that particular element of snobbishness all over them. And in stores such as Gamlin’s, there is so much choice, and so many people asking you questions about what you’re looking for that there is a small element of intimidation. That’s not their fault; it’s a symptom of their dedication to their field. In Pencerdd Cyf though, you have the perfect balance. The reverence for the instruments and the knowledgability that comes with it is there, but there’s no sense of «us insiders, you outsiders». Instead, there’s an atmosphere of community in the store; an atmosphere that fosters musicianship. If I could combine the service here with the stock of Cranes, you might just have the perfect music store.

One of only a handful of genuinely brilliant shops in Peanrth. Probably the most interesting of all the shops and its location right next to the train station make it something that catches the eye of visitors. They sell literally everything a musician could need. They have a huge selection of harps — small and large, an even bigger selection of guitars including the fantastic«Vintage» make along with Gibson and LAG and a few others. They have pretty much every instrument you could want in there along with all the accessories like strings and drumsticks and of course sheet music. The service is always very friendly and old-fashioned — if buying more than one item, you’ll often find yourself doing some maths with a piece of paper and a pen to figure out how much you owe them — I think it’s really quirky and lovely. A perfect reason not to pay for a train in to Cardiff and visit one of the more commercial music shops there.

Predominantly a shop which sells guitars and harps. The lady who runs this store is incredibly knowledgeable on her stock(particularly when it comes to the harps). They do however, also have a good selection of music books and sheet paper, Including many scores from popular films, TV shows and Musicals. My younger sister particularly liked this store as she was delighted to discover that they had a Glee music book, which she has now been practicing continuously!

Wow, this shop must be a musicians dream! I have only ever shopped here 3 times in 3 years as I only ever need to buy drumsticks for a birthday gift but I love coming in here! The shop is packed full of instruments and music paraphanalia so much so that you have to mind where you tread and there are some utterly beautiful harps on display, totally dwarfing the guitars hanging on the wall! The lady who works here is always really lovely and find what I need quicker than I can ask for it! I am really looking forward to when my little ones are old enough to learn to play an instrument and we will be straight down to this proper, old — fashioned music shop.
