The Chough(named after the rare bird seldom sighted off of the Cornish coast) is a nice bakery opposite the harbour in Padstow. They have a nice selection of freshly baked bread, cakes and savoury items. We wanted to pick up a couple of sarnies for our walk. There was a reasonable selection and they turned out to be very well filled and tasty. My only small complaint was that it leaked a bit in my bag! I hear that the pasties are good from here but I didn’t get to try one on this occasion. Three stars instead of four as the service was a little lacking.

The Chough offers a proper and tasty pasty. A Pasty is to baked goods what the egg and banana are to their respective food groups: they come with their own carrying case. And The Chough’s pasties are made of the most wonderful fillings and crust, especially the rolled bit that you grab on to whilst eating out the center bit. If you find yourself in Padstow, go on, contribute to the local economy and sink your teeth around a real bit of British culinary history. God bless the Pasty. God bless The Chough.

As seen on TV. A perfect situation to draw in the crowds — a curved building — the first one you see as you walk into the centre of Padstow. A proper bakery too, the bread is fantastic and they sell great award winning pasties. Around the corner there are three pasty shops side by side, but while I was in here making the all important bread choice to bring home for my folks — they sold a whole load of pasties, so it seems the chain pasty makers don’t threaten this family run bakery one inch. The window display of bread is excellent — its what dragged me in(other than the fact I wanted to see whether the mum off the telly box really was as miserable as she seemed, and she was!). And when I got home with my farmhouse wheatflake loaf, and spread a little butter on it, I was glad I chose it. Fab! Definitely worth a visit.

This is my favorite place to go, get a lovely pasty, eat it far too quickly because it tastes so good, and then sit on a bench facing Padstow Harbour gently moaning and silently berating myself for eating a pasty far too quickly. Again.

I think the best pasties in Padstow come from the Chough. I found the chicken and mushroom one delicious and my husband loved the steak and stilton one, although you can’t go wrong with the traditional Cornish pasty. You can also get pasties posted to your home. Overall the prices are fair. Ice creams are also really delicious.

If you want the best pasties in Padstow(probably Cornwall) then you have to visit The Chough Bakery(named after a Cornish bird). The pasties are second to none and in particular you must try their steak and stilton which are exceptional. The bread and cakes are also very good.
