Hart’s Bar

Hart’s Bar has a reputation that extends well beyond Oxford Brookes. Whilst it’s probably not worth travelling far to get there during the day, unless you’re using Brookes facilities, it’s well worth a visit on certain nights. Their club nights are packed full of happy people and some of the live acts wouldn’t be out of place playing at the Carling Academy. The atmosphere is always really good and the drinks are cheap. It’s very, very studenty, but that’s to be expected. If you go with friends from Brookes, they’re very welcoming to non-​Brookes students, and I’m sure that would be the same even if you went alone, although there are some nights that really are intended just for the uni students.

When this place is open it serves beer etc in a nice relaxed atmosphere at student prices. They ell lovely sahara nuts and the usual snacks plus during the day you can usually get paninis. I say when it is open as I have been over on several occasions recently for a drink (last time was saturday at 7pm) and it has been closed! I suspect this is due to staff shortages as during my undergrad times I spent many an afternoon here!

Harts Bar is the central hub of socialisation at Brookes. During the day you will find groups of friends, groups trying to make the best of having to do assignments. and the odd lecturer too. The beer is cheap, the atmosphere is relaxed… and there is even a large patio garden on a sunny day.
The good thing is that Harts is suited to anyone. During the day its fairly quiet and people can play pool, the I. t Box or simply play music on the jukebox. The staff are friendly and laid back, not surprising seen as they are students too.
In the evening Harts is usually busy. Whether its acoustic night, quiz nite, fubar or pleasuredome — there will always be students. The good thing is, its always a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
When the smoking ban came in Harts bar decided to have a refurb. Nothing too over the top, but it did result in a cleaner and more crisp Harts bar. nothing fancy. Just nice.
On a weds and frid nite Harts will be rammed. You may also be asked to show your student card or pay 50p entrance if you do not have one. This is simply because Dome is the biggest clubnight on a friday in Oxford and they like to make sure that its mainly students enjoying their own su. So its a good thing.
Harts is a great bar for a laid back atmosphere and a cheap drink!

Every Oxford Brookes Student knows harts bar. Set in the student union, it is the idle places to congregate after lecture to ‘review’ the days learning with the cheapest pints consistently and pools tables. Harts is a true all in one bar, during the day, its practically empty, and a great place just to relax and utilise the jukebox with a very student oriented selection of music, while during the varying nights you could find live music (acoustic night Mondays), pub quiz, or just an extension of the union’s extremely popular clubs nights (FUBAR, Pleasuredome)
