Wetherspoons, surprisingly has a few branches in Oldham City centre, this one is on Yorkshire Street, just after The Up Steps Inn, unfortunately the name of this branch isn’t as good as the one down the road, which basically tells you what it is «Up steps» The menu for this place seems to be the typical Wetherspoons menu and they say they are a «curry» and«Steak» house, which led to me getting a steak. They do have a gluten free menu but it is quite poor, for example no steak sauces are gluten free or at least listed on this menu. I wanted to order The Aberdeen Angus Steak but had to settle for a rump, with this being out of stock. My steak was presented with a jacket potato, mushed peas, a tomato and mushroom, giving a grilled theme. My meal come to around £10 if I recall however I was still disappointed. The Steak had a great flavour, probably one of the best flavours I have ever had with a steak, however it was extremely chewy, which even for a well done steak, is far too extreme hence it tasted in a way like a cheap cut, if it wouldn’t of been so chewy, it probably would of been the perfect 10⁄10 steak, but this make it taste awful and like a chore to eat. The Mushrooms and the tomato was all grilled, honestly I normally like mushrooms but I didn’t like it done on the grill. The jacket potato was presented very well with Ancor butter and it did look like a nice potato, although I did enjoy it, it tasted like it could of been frozen. The waiting time was slightly longer than what you would expect — especially of food of that quality, where it did taste cheap and frozen in some areas. Even my friend, who I catched up with on this visit,(normally a big meat eater) didn’t really like the meat and thought the same as me. The plates were quite strange from a pub, going from the normal plain white, to a navy and white flowers, which I feel also cheapened the dish. It is all order at the bar, which also disappoints me as it does mean running back and forth to your group if for example, something is out of stock, like the Aberdeen Angus Steak I originally wanted. It was a typical wetherspoons inside, darker colours and not very modern, honestly it wasn’t the nicest place to be in. For a place that prides its-self on being a «Steak house» my experience was very poor, I would visit again however I do feel it is unlikely and I doubt I would order the same thing again, so based on everything commented on in this review, I feel the most fair ranking is 2 stars.

The Squire Knott is a pretty big Wetherspoons on Yorkshire Street which is pretty full of the usual Wetherspoons crowd: students having pub food and people having after work drinks. This is as it was when I had a drink in here. Not very many wines but what do you expect, bottles of beers and ciders and the usual spirits. The Squire Knott has free wifi for those cool cats who want to go to a Wetherspoons to spend their life on facebook for instance. Nothing much to say really except there are no surprises here — the staff looked a bit sullen and bored but so would I be if I was in their shoes that night.
