Moda is apparently the place to buy shoes in Newtownards. I disagree — first of all it is way too expensive and even their sales don’t really take that much off. The handbags are also very highly priced and personally not even that nice. I know that taste is subjective but price isn’t and who can afford to pay £150 for a handbag in this climate? A lot of the brands they stock can be found cheaper in TKMaxx therefore if I want an unusual pair of Rocket dogs, for example, I might go there first. They also sell jewelry, which is also priced rather highly at some pieces costing £50 and not really looking like they should. They do stock Fit Flops which is a good find as I struggled to find them anywhere else in the town. I notice they have just bought in EMU brand boots too, which I quite like but can also be found for a cheaper price in TKMaxx(if you are lucky!) One last thing, if a pair of shoes costs £99 one day then £89 the next does that mean they deserve to no longer sit nicely in a little area of their own but have to now lay in among all the other shoes in what frankly I would refer to as a heap? If you have money go here and have a look. They do do a range of shoes to suit young and old — I’m just cynical about the prices.

Moda is a rare breed of shoe shop. And it’s not because it sells shoes(novel, I know), but because it caters for a wide range of ladies, right from the teens to the older ladies. So many shoe shops stock shoes which only appeal to a certain generation, so its extremely refreshing to find such a fab range in Moda, and the shoes really are generally very nice. Having popped in to take a peak at the sale a couple of days ago, I was delighted to discover huge discounts on nearly all shoes, and attempted to dive in and find a few bargains. Unfortunately, three ladies and a buggy were in my way and would not move. Nope, not even an inch. For a good ten minutes, I hovered, I coughed, I dodged… and still the chin-wagging continued. No movement, but plenty of chat. Grrr, frustration. No shoes bargains to be had, unfortunately, although that was quite possibly for the better. I’ll be back!

Moda is one of those shops that you wish you had always known about. It’s a shoe shop that sells shoes(yes, really) just that little bit different to everything else you see on the high street. Loads of the brands are Spanish or French, and they also stock Fit Flops(de rigueur for summering on the north coast, darling) Fly London, Tamaris and Hilfiger shoes. Some of the most fab shoes have eye watering prices — well over the £100 cut off for me, and some nearer £150, but they really are things of beauty, encrusted with crystals and jewels and general fabulousness. The kind of shoes you would wear to a black tie event and have to keep adjusting to make sure everyone saw them. Mind you, anyone who has heard of Tamaris shoes will know that they are much more affordable — leather flip flops for about £35, but ones that will last you a couple of summers. My most recent buy from Moda was a pair of high heeled going out sandals and I’m delighted to say they only set me back a purse friendly £35. A new pair of shoes I was able to tell my husband the actual price of. So, shop carefully and you’ll get a fab pair of shoes for under £40, or if you don’t have to worry about your budget(and I would like to know who you are and make friends with you), splash out over £100 for a pair of scene stealers.
