I’ve given the Toby Carvery a 3 star because I believe that the Toby Carvery was desiring off a four or even a five star but the service has gone down hill the food is fine so that’s why I’ve given it a 3 star I think other people who have given it a higher rating have been way to generous

To be fair, I have never been to any other Toby Carvery to compare, but I am a huge fan of this place! Atmosphere: One downside. This Toby Carvery is usually pretty cramped during dinnertime and I don’t know if it’s just my bad luck but there always seems to be screaming toddlers nearby. Essentially, don’t expect a peaceful dining experience. Customer Service: From my experience, the customer service has been very friendly but I think they’re very understaffed, especially at the carvery station. Often times you’ll see only one person working the station and whenever new food needs to be brought out it would be one guy switching out new plates as well as taking orders from the long line of customers. They could at least have a kitchen hand bringing out of the food and clearing out the station instead of having 1 person do it all. Food: The saving grace. For 6 pounds(1.50 to upgrade to «king-size») you get your choice of meats, a yorkshire pudding, and unlimited access to the veggies section. I also go for the roast beef and roast pork combo and it’s always cooked beautifully! The vegetables section also has a great selection. The food is always yummy and delicious. Toby Carvery consistently delivers fantastic food. At such a great price, it’s hard to say no!

It’s a Toby Carvery, just like all the other Toby Carveries, but what marks this one out from the rest in my experience is that the service reception, waiters, servers and carvers — is unremiitingly bad. The last time I was there it was early and quiet. We waited ten minutes to be seated by a moaning waitress, there was no-one serving at the counter despite there being at least six people in the kitchen, the chap who carved for us was surly and scruffy and several vegetable dishes were empty. Our drinks didn’t arrive till we had practically finished our food, our table wasn’t cleared and we weren’t offered desert. Fortunately Newport has a Harvester and four Weatherspoons.

The Coldra Toby Carvery is located very close to junction 24 of the M4 and provides an excellent alternative to the usual motorway service stations. The food is great, very reasonable in cost and the surroundings are very pleasant with lots of tables tucked away in little nooks well away from the main bar area. I will certainly make a point of stopping here again when on my way to and from Wales.

Why have we not got a Toby Carvery in London? This particular pub is quite big, and is really good for groups we were in a group on nine on a Thursday night. The pub is very homely and has carpet with wooden tables and chairs with a varnish finish and curtains. The room that we were in had quirky picture’s, one was a black and white photo with a granny eating candy floss, but the candy floss was the only colour in the picture. Toby carvery has a very family feel to it as well, due the fact is a lot families and group of friends dine here. Customer service was warm and friendly, and was attentive to let me know when my pie was getting ready. I ordered a steak & Ale pie, then I had to collect my cauliflower cheese, carrots, peas and roast potatoes from the buffet. The pie was rich in flavour with a great crust. This meal cost me £5:49 and was very filling. I love Toby Carvery, I had their Sunday roast and loved it. Next visit to Wales i will definitely find Toby. :))

Now I don’t know the In’s and Out’s behind Toby Carvery and why it has that name etc but what I do know is it’s a very popular restuarant where I live, as it probably is elsewhere. It is more of a family orientated restuarant with a pub to, thats a bonus for all you beer lovers out there eh? Upon arriving at the restaurant depending on how busy and the staff etc you are usually only waiting around 2 minutes for a table, if any longer they ask you your name and politely ask you to wait in the seating area which is by the pub. What a clever way to get you to buy a drink! If you do have to wait a little they call your name and lead you to an available table. Once sat down comfortably you’re usually asked if you’d like any drinks or starters, if yes you can order there and then with your waiter/waitress if not they tell you to help yourself to the carvery whenever your ready. Now this is the exciting part, as you walk up to the carvery section nose twitching and mouth watering it brings tears to your eyes when you stand in the Queue glancing at the steamy, hot succulent roats and tantalising tasty vegetables, oh no the tears are just there because of the heat coming from them(lol O. K so I’m not that funny!) There is usually 3 choices of meats to choose from, and you can choose one or more for the Chef to put on a plate for you, usually the meats are a Roast Beef, Honey Glazed Gammon and Turkey. In my local Toby they have also introduced a vegetarian section, I don’t know what it is is they put there, I’ve been too shy to ask but its usually a basket of a few things which look similar to pastry with a few herbs on it but I’m no food genius so don’t quote me on that next time your at your local Toby. Once the chef has finely sliced your meats and placed them on your plate, he will then ask you if you would like sage&onion, they tend not to ask you if you want stuffing. Now I didn’t know why when I was just 12⁄13(I was a late starter and learner see) I stood there waiting for him to ask but he didn’t, so small and timid me politely but loudly asked can I have some stuffing please? to which everybody in the queue including my Dad next to me thought it was highly hysterical, although I didn’t once I learnt exactly what they were laughin at! Embarassing!(lol) The chef then hands your plate to you and you now have the freedom to fill your plate up with whatever vegetables you desire. The vegetable pots are changed continuously throughout the day to keep them fresh for new customers of course. You can have as much veg as you like, and even go up for a second helping. A Yorkshire Pudding, Cauliflower Cheese, Parsnips, Peas, Cabbage, Potatoes Boiled and Roasted, Carrots, all this you can have to make up a lovely roast dinner just for you. Now the excitement doesnt stop there, you now can pour on your gravy(onion or normal gravy), and add a little extra, maybe Mint Sauce or Mustard. Now ENJOY! Now so far I have just concentrated on the Carvery, as that I believe is probably the most popular meal to have. But they also have their own select menu with starters, I have only ever had one which is chicken tikka pieces and sausage things on sticks(how common am I) with a sauce to dip into and side salad, was lovely so now I always have it! But you can also choose from Prawn Cocktail, Bacon and Cheese Potato Skins, Soups and many more. Theres a main meal selection, which I have not took much notice of as I always have a carvery and the desserts section, ahhh heaven! Well it’s heaven if you can even fit it in after your main dinner. I don’t know how but I always find room to fit in a heavenly chocolate fudge cake with cream or dreamy icecream with wafers and toffee sauce, they also do apple pies and cream or ice cream and a toffee cake and many more. They also have a kids section if you fancy just feeding your young ones with fish fingers and chips or something basic but satisfying. You don’t have to book a table to go enjoy a stunning meal in Toby Carvery, you can just turn up whenever you like, but sometimes it is extremely busy and of course due to good customer service the staff are not going to rush people to eat their food they pay just like we do, so if you do turn up and there are no available tables a little wait at the bar wont hurt, well it might hurt your purse after you’ve bought a few drinks, But the patience is worth it. Especially for the price, on a weekday before 7pm and Saturdays it is just £5 for a carvery! Well worth the money! Even after 7pm or on a Sunday it is still only £8! This is one of the only restuarants I will go in, as I always have my hefty double buggy with me it fits easily through their wide double doors, and around the place itself. They also cater for the little ones by supplying you with a clean, sturdy highchair if need be. It’s not posh, so posh that you have to stick your nose up talk like you have something stuck in your nose or throat and you have to dress like your worth a

Mr Toby’s in Newport is a great place to eat, they serve a range of dishes but they are best known for their traditional carvery. They serve food all through the day and we have never had to wait for a table except for Sundays when the place gets really busy, with families. If you eat before 7pm a carvery meal is only £5.00 which is really good value. There is always a choice of three succulent roasts usually beef, gammon or turkey then you help yourselves to fresh veg, roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. should you want to you can go up for extra helpings of veg etc. I cannot comment on the other meals available because I only ever have the carvery. I have eaten here numerous times the food has always been excellent and the staff are very efficient.
