Everything to be expected from a chain bar/restaurant. Food and menu both good, no complaints there. Good selection of ales and wine. Nice warm décor. However, main gripe is staff seemed somewhat too involved with their own work rather than customers and bar lads were cleaning down well over an hour before last orders, made us feel very unwelcome. Night porter was setting up breakfast table at 10.30pm, surely he had the whole night to do so! Overall however had good night and would recommend for a meal and a few drinks but staff could do much more to make people feel welcome and not feel obliged to turn in early.

This pub is located right between McDonald’s and a cheapo traveller’s inn… we didn’t have a lot of hope it would be good, although we did expect it to be cheap. Boy were we surprised — this pub was such a good find! The interior atmosphere is very warm, very English and generally pleasant. Traditional pub meets some modern elegance with 2 woodburning fireplaces. The lunch deals were fantastic. I’ve posted some pics of the food we had — it was so YUM especially for the prices. Wine by the bottle is quite reasonable as well. I noticed that they have a pretty large beer garden outside so I can’t wait for summertime to try that out. Definitely worth the trip — a long but lovely walk from Regent Centre metro station(probably 1.5 miles). Will definitely return!!!

Stayed here over the Easter weekend with an excellent offer of Sunday night for free(and there was a continental breakfast included). Ate at the the pub each night(Newcastle is just too hectis after a busy day) and the quality of the food meant there was no need to wander. Mixed starter, huge but we loved the baked camembert, so we just settled for this the next night and the wonderfully cheesy garlic bread the next. Our meals ranged from grilled salmon to a roast and toad in the hole. All were excellent for a pub meal. Great range of wines too.

A lovely pub, family friendly and spacious with a delicious good value menu. Often quite busy, but the service is good and the food really good quality. There is plenty of parking — The Falcons Nest is located close to Gosforth Park racecourse and is next to the Marriott hotel and InnKeepers Lodge, right next door to the A1 so access is easy.

This is a nice big pub which still manages to have quite a cosy feel to it. We have been here regularly, and we have always enjoyed the food. The menu isn’t extensive but does change — although we find the steak hard to resist if nothing else takes our fancy. I have to say that I preferred the previous menu, which some people thought to be a little different and it can be a bit pricey if you have more than just a main course — However the Sunday Roast in particular, does seem to be good value. On the whole, this is definitely worth a visit. Rate 3⁄5

It is rare for a fussy cow like me to award full marks to a bar or restaurant, but I honestly could not find fault with this wonderful gem. The décor of the Falcon’s Nest is in many ways very traditionally English, which is a lovely thing to see in an era of trendy, samey bars. It has a low ceiling and beautiful wooden beams. It has some ‘traditional’ dining chairs by the tables; other seating is like a sofa running down the wall, with lots of lovely cushions. The lighting is soft and relaxing. Overall, it’s luxurious, cosy and fairly unique. The food is absolutely sublime. There is a variety of traditional dishes, including roasts, fish and chips and pies. Some of the dishes are traditional with a modern twists. I didn’t try these, but we ate in the place twice and both times we both found what we did eat to be excellent. On the second occasion we also took friends who also could not fault the cuisine. It was tasty, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Desserts were to die for as well, and the men’s Irish coffees went down a treat! Portions were absolutely huge(especially the divine turkey roast!), which for someone who loves their grub like me was a great plus point. It is also a lovely pub just to relax and have a few pints in. The drink is slightly cheaper than most city centre pubs, and is certainly less expensive than almost all bars in Belfast, where I live(though admittedly Belfast is notoriously dear for alcohol). They have a good range of ciders, lagers and ales available. I don’t remember looking at a wine list, but I don’t doubt that one was available. The service was excellent. All the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful. They all made a point of saying goodbye to us at closing time, which doesn’t sound like much but is something I’ve encountered so rarely in recent times, even in non-busy places, that it really makes such a nice change to hear it. I believe the Falcon’s Nest also has rooms if you wanted to stay overnight. I would certainly consider staying there based on my experience in the bar/restaurant. Toilets, which are upstairs, are a wee bit hard to find, but this would honestly be my only criticism, and it is not a major one(after all, once you know it once, you know it). Disabled facilities exist on the ground floor. Overall, a great pub/restaurant. Thankfully I am over in Newcastle two or three times a year so hopefully it won’t be too long before I am back there — no trip would now be complete without a visit to the Falcon’s Nest.
