Sadly, the maintenance of this café seriously lets down the score I would have given for the quality of the food and cakes. If you aim on eating in, my advice would be to look elsewhere — or buy the food and eat it al fresco. The tables are generally dirty and cluttered with old pots and cutlery that haven’t been cleared away. The cutlery is sometimes not as clean as it should be and is sometimes incomplete eg no knives or no forks etc. It is a sign of the times in this country that cleanliness and presentation are not rated that highly — if they were, then this place would not have half the business it does. Clearly, the food is the real draw and people are prepared to put up with any old mess in order to eat it. Abroad, a place like this would be deserted, no matter how good the food. Yet, this is such a simple problem to put right — if only the staff cared enough to do it. However, if you want good quality cakes to take home, this is definintely the place. Cakes and pastries are sold at the front of the shop. Although they do not make them on the premises, they are part of the Greggs chain and so are very good. Just a pity that the café part of the premises is such a let down.
