Being a veggie, sushi is not really on obvious choice. But one day I decided to stop and have a look at the menu to which I was pleasantly surprised! We got taken to our seats in front of the conveyor belt –which amazed my little eyes. Unfortunately we were sat next to a man on his own who had about 8 empty bottles of beer in front of him. He was mumbling rubbish at the staff and trying to make them laugh. They were pleasant about it — they were clearly making a fortune out of him! The staff were very helpful and friendly all night., and yes we left before the drunken man/ At first I didn’t really know what to do so we just sat there watching the food go around and around… so we grabbed one! We checked the menu to see what it was. Turned out to be a spicy kaiso salad which was LOVELY! Really tasty. So I took a glance through the menu and picked out my veggie options, check the plate colour and GRAB! From the conveyor belt i tried the kaiso salad, Inari Mini ISO — spicy and sticky, and the vegetable gyoza which were the nicest i have tried in a long time. From the menu I ordered the vegetable hand roll and the pumpkin korroke. The hand roll was the nicest thing i had all night, especially since the chef made it right there in front of my eyes! Adam Y tried some of the meaty options(but not the fish) and said he enjoyed them. The colour coded plates help with how much you have spent so far which is a good indication of when to stop grabbing! So, we came to pay and they counted the plates(10) and two bottles of beer and a refillable glass of water and it was £30. BARGAIN! Can’t wait to go back… maybe tomorrow!

Full disclosure: This is not the place to go for authentic or super fresh sushi. Everything is pre-made(they don’t butcher the fish on site) and like the conveyor belt service, it’s definitely a factory, assembly line approach to sushi. But that being said, it’s certainly passable and while not prepared on site, their quality control is down to a science. You’re not going to be totally overwhelmed by flavor but if you’re on the go and looking for a quick bite from an established fast food establishment, you can’t go wrong here. The service staff is very friendly and and efficient. The only bad thing about it being in the basement of Selfridge’s is that it closes promptly at 8– meaning they do last food orders 30 minutes before closing and you do feel rushed to get out of there. In all, it’s a good way to quickly satisfy a sushi craving.

Great Sushi experience in Britain. Visited this place when they had a 2.50 pound spacial for all colored plates. I probably went through 6 plates not including desert. Their warm plates are also delicious and the deserts they have are amazing. I will definitely be back when I visit England again.

My girlfriend loves Sushi. She says that it’s tasty but also very healthy. Is that true? Anyway, that means that I’m always getting dragged along to this place to eat little morsels of odd fish stuff that I don’t really understand. I mean, it tastes alright but the thing is that I’m a MAN. I need beer, pies, chips, burgers, baked beans on toast, that kind of thing. Not miniscule morsels of fishy stuff that you’re meant to eat with two bits of wood.

Yo Sushi was the first place to make sushi trendy i guess. They have conveyor belts with all the little plates of sushi on and back in the day they used to have robots serving drinks. Unfortunately the effort they spend on making the place cool appears to have had two major repercussions. Firstly, they have to charge a ridiculous amount to make up for all the cash they’ve squadered on conveyor belts. And secondly, they seem to have reduced the amount of time they spend on making the food nice. Basically, its not at all bad. However, there are nicer and certainly cheaper sushi places around. Try Tokyo Season for the cheapest and possibly best sushi around. If its the conveyor belt that you love try New Samsi in Spinningfields.

Yes, yes we have all heard those people who moan about Yo Sushi not being a ‘real’ sushi restaurant but hey, the food is good and that’s all there is to it! Located in the basement floor of the Selfridges in Manchester, there’s access to it straight from the entrance so you can get straight there — probably better or you’ll be distracted by all the other food available and will have eaten your way through your appetite before arriving for sushi. The food’s great with a huge variety of dishes and something for everyone — the novice and the advanced sushi lover. It’s quite expensive but they do a student discount of 25% and have a Blue Mondays offer where a selection of plates are priced at £2.20, well worth the bargain. You can request certain dishes from the chefs as well, then watch as they prepare them.

Yo Sushi is worth a visit for the sheer novelty of grabbing food off a conveyor belt alone… It is a good job the food is good too or the novelty would wear off pretty fast. Yo Sushi provides varied sushi menu, loads to choose from. If you don’t like the texture of fish, then there are some veggie and meat options! and hot meals too, these need to be ordered from the waiter, all you have to do is flick a switch to grab some attention! The restaurant also uses a colour coded pricing system, all dishes come in a one of six colours, each colour representing a different price which is great for keeping track on how much you spend. Although, double edged sword you find yourself grabbing loads off the belt as it’s just there in front of you! I must say though, it is slightly uncomfortable being hemmed in so tightly with other diners at the bar like table you have to sit at…

Located in Selfridges’s food hall on the lower ground floor, this Yo Sushi should be a great place to pop in for miso soup and mouth-watering sushi rolls. Sadly, the last few times I’ve been they were out of miso soup and the firecracker rice and pumpkin korroke | ordered were just okay. The food on the conveyor belt usually looks and tastes fresh but the fact all the seats are curved around it can be distracting. When there’s clean and efficient chefs on duty it’s a pleasure to watch them carving salmon and chopping ingredients. When there’s messy chefs surrounded by clutter and dirty chopping boards however, it’s more likely to make me worry about food poisoning and less about Japanese delicacies!
