This is the most awesome shop. The guys who run this, Goff and Jen, seriously know how to predict what people want, and stock their shop accordingly. The things here are beautiful and knowingly selected. I’ve almost filled a house with beautiful art and furniture. Some complain that it’s over priced — I’d say that you pay for quality and we’ll chosen work! Seriously my favourite shop in all Manchester. Go there and spend your money on something with a bit of history in it!

Wowie Zowie is a shop that I have to practically bar myself from entering. Mainly because whenever I walk in here, I’m incapable of walking out again without spending lots of money! Not that this is a bad thing of course– indeed, it’s a testament to their great range of stock that I wish I could buy everything in store. A small independent situated slap bang in the middle of hip and happening Chorlton, Wowie Zowie deals in wonderfully quirky retro paraphanalia — from great vinyl finds to cool vintage books, dresses and accessories, some great homeware as well as a vast array of badges, cards and postcards all designed to turn your home into a vintage paradise. Every time I’ve paid Wowie Zowie a visit, I’ve always been impressed with how friendly and knowledgable its staff are. They helped me to find the perfect 1970s themed birthday present for my Dad last time I was in there — and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who’s looking for something a decidedly different gift for a special person in their life. Wowie Zowie is an absolute treasure trove of remarkably cool stuff. You should definitely pay it a visit if you’re ever in Chorlton — just make sure you have deep pockets!

This is a new shop in the capital of Mancunian cod-bohemia — Chorlton. Just across the road from the(in)famous Unicorn and next door-but-one to Pi, Wowie Zowie is exactly the kind of shop that Manchester needs. A small independent that deals in the things it loves — great vinyl finds, cool vintage clothes, ace glassware and pottery as well as cool magazines, cards, artwork and badges. Owners Goff and Jenny are super friendly and very, very knowledgeable and can help you out if you’re after something in particular or buying for someone else. The shop is a wonderful curio and labour of love which you could spend some time sifting through. Imagine Pop Boutique, but cooler. The only drawback is that it’s in Chorlton, which is notoriously difficult to get to if you’re relying on public transport — however, if you can make it down, it’s well worth a visit. You’ll almost certainly end up parting with some money at this wonderful little shop.

Staying on a 70s tip, Wowie Zowie is a cute boutique in Chorlton that specialises in vintage furniture, home décor, clothes and vinyl. Like Pop Boutique on Oldham Street, everything is secondhand but carefully selected by the owners. The square footage of the shop means there’s only room for a couple of big pieces of furniture but there’s plenty else to see. My stylist friend was blown away by the brightly coloured cushions, wallpaper, clocks, lamps and vases but for me, it was all about the vintage turntable and small vinyl selection in the corner. On the basis of the records I flicked through, I’d say Wowie Zowie is run by an obsessive funk, soul, psyche-rock and garage fan. All the 45s and 33s are endearingly labelled with small descriptions /reference points and they have some great obscure long-players alongside classic albums like Jefferson Airplane’s Surrealistic Pillow. Far out, my friends, far out. Follow the white rabbit:

This shop would be at home amongst its independent brothers and sisters on Beech Road, but doesn’t seem to suffer among the bars and takeaways of the Manchester Road. If you’ve found yourself thinking, «I can’t believe that the university freshers were actually born in the 90s!» then this little shop is probably for you. It is packed full of retro memorabilia from the 50s to the 80s including second hand clothes, glass vases, vintage vinyl, patterned cushions and psychedelic wrapping paper and giftcards. A great little place to buy unique gifts for fans of all things vintage.
