William Gladstone Statue

This is another one of those impressive bronze statues that you will find all around Manchester’s city centre. William Gladstone was the British Prime Minister four times and despite starting out as a Conservative achieved much social reform a Liberal.
This statue was created in 1901 by Mario Raggi and stands in Albert Square.
Gladstone was appreciate in Manchester for the establishment of a free press (hurray) and elementary schools.
