It definitely is one of the landmark buildings in Manchester Oxford Road just because of the way it looks, its round it’s shiny and its beautiful! The lecture theatres are massive and guess what some very famous speakers have come to lecture here. There are some public lectures held here as well which is open to anyone and everyone.
The café is really good with a wide range of freshly made hot food, I spend hours in the café before my exams to feed myself and study at the same time. The building is very modern with comfy couches, study zones, computer clusters that make it great for students. On weekdays this place is buzzing with students and you get to see such an international culture here, which is not a very common site in other parts of Manchester!

Had a visit to the chemistry department with a family member on interview day. Whole campus is very extensive in the centre of Manchester. Really enjoyed the day, staff & students very knowledgable on the way forward to further education. They also gave a fun demonstration on the practical aspects of chemistry. The wiz bang show was great.

For me, I don’t think I could have seen myself at any other university. Being from neighbouring Cheshire and hearing the raving reviews of friends who passed through the degree ranks here, I was definitely going to follow.
Now boasting being the largest university in the UK with about 40 000 undergraduate students and 10 000 staff all hosted in the two campuses which used to form the UMIST and the Victoria campuses of yesteryear. It’s now well renowned as being a high quality university with some top quality research done in its many facilities and departments, with well over its quota asking to become a part of it every year.
Manchester University offers the best that a city can offer. The nightlife, travel links, attractions, shopping etc.
Regarding travel, it has the large hub train hub of the north west Piccadilly along with the busiest bus route in Europe down Oxford Road where buses coming every 2 minutes or so from the two bus companies Finglands or the more preferred for students the combination of MagicBus and Stagecoach.
My experience here has been amazing for the first two years of my degree, bring on my last and final year!

The subject of some controversy due to its — unconventional — appearance, University Place is the central, student hub of the University of Manchester. The enormous drum shaped building houses two eateries, lecture theatres and offices, and has been open since 2008.
The main canteen in University Place serves good food at cheap prices, so is perfect for students to get some nosh during the day. The range of food changes daily, but you can normally expect pastas, pizza, burgers, salads, curries, sandwiches — the list goes on. Best of all, a meal here will cost you between £2 and £4. The queues here can be huge, especially at lunch time, and the staff are sticklers for the times in which they serve food. Breakfast is served until 11 (they offer a very good Full English) and from about 11.30 they serve lunch and full meals until the canteen closes at 3.
It is not a particularly relaxing or inspiring place to eat, and it can be awkward trying to contact people on their mobiles from inside the building, due to an installed signal scrambler, which completely wipes out any mobile reception. The smaller café area is in a take-​out format, and is surrounded by extra seating, tables and a few low sofas. The building has full access to the University’s WiFi network, so it can be a very useful place to stop and work, eat, and socialise.

You can’t miss University Place at all. The shiny cylindrical thing popping out onto Oxford Road is where a few of my lectures have been. Everything is new and there’s loads and loads of rooms you can get lost. New building, time to stick all the students in here, that’s why you often get a jam of people on the stairs which is often annoying. I often wonder what would happen if there was a fire, ultimate chaos.
Other than studenting, University Place houses a huge canteen refectory area, serving up the school dinner types on the school dinner type tables. There’s also a separate more smaller café part too offering pizzas, sandwiches and hot and cold drinks. At the front you’ll find the visitor centre if you’re ever feeling that extra inquisitive about the University and what to read literature about why you’ve chosen one of the greatest University’s in the world blah blah.
Overall one of the few offerings that I’ll praise the Uni of Manc for.

Should I tell you the story? Should I get to the point? Oh, I’ll tell you the story. First day as a student. They’ve put a map on my hands and said, right, you need to go to the university place. Oh really??? I used to live right next to Piccadilly Train station at that point. Anyway, somehow, I got to the main library, in St. Peters Square. Desperate that I’m going to miss my first lecture, I’ve started to cry like a little girl in the middle of the street, until a lovely man gave me directions. After a looong time, I managed to get there. Wow! As in Wooooooooow. Amazing! Fantastic building and great architecture. Very imposing, I was thinking that I just a poor little creature in front of such an extraordinary piece of art. The interior of the University is great. Clean all the time, new furniture in most of the lecture theatres. Very well equipped with all the projectors and stuff, to make our lives easier.
I’m very proud to be a student at the University of Manchester. The only thing is, that I would like the Law building to be better, newer and easier to explore it. By far, my favorite one is the Art building. Not only that all the funky awesome people are around, but the interior remind me of a classy movie as well. Even if you don’t fancy doing a degree, you should visit our cool University, you feel alive surrounded by all them young students, ready to party all the time

Whether you’re dropping by for a coffee before a lecture or vegging out all day on your taptop, University Place is a perfect stop-​off for students.
There is a large free-​seated café area where you can pick up a sandwich, coffee and muffin for under a fiver. There is a decent selection of sandwiches but you need to get there early as the good ones disappear quickly. There are plenty of places to sit, and if you want to use your taptop WiFi is available is you use your University login.
On the other side of the building is a large cafeteria which serves hot and cold food ranging from cereal and fruit salad for breakfast, to chilli, curry and pasta bakes for dinner. Similar to The Refectory in price, University Place’s cafeteria offers meals of a better standard and with some real substance. Go for the mixed salad box and cram in as much as you can, or pick up a bowl of soup with a crusty roll for a reasonable £1.40.
If you want style and atmosphere, head up Oxford Road for somewhere a little more classy, but for a morning coffee or a quick lunch University Place is perfect.

The big building which looks like a tin! Yes, that would be University place where maximum students have lectures, tutorials, discussions and everything studenty!
This is where I spend most of my week in, owing to the large amount of work, we students have to put up with. The building is excellent! It is modern and spacious and even it is completely filled with students, there’s always room for extra!
Every room here is well equipped technologically and makes available to every being class education! There is also a eatery and counters for tea coffee and food. A quick bite between lectures or when you’re just about hungry.
It’s a great place and makes being a part of Manchester University worthwhile!

University Place is a place at the University (of Manchester). Wheras large parts of the university are only for students of the university, this place is the home of public lectures. This means that any member of the general public can attend. This is not the case with all lectures and sometimes tickets are required so check out the website for details.
Some of the finest speakers in the land have spoken here since the oil-​drum-​shaped building opened in 2008. Recently Judith Butler, arguably the most famous feminist thinker alive, spoke here.
If you do come you will not only get a to witness history in the making with up-​to-​date lectures on critical and cultural theory, but you will also fin a community of interested scholarly types to discuss your own thoughts with.
You can also get a tea and coffee and sit in the open plan modern seating areas to chat, read or just think. A really great experience and one of the best things Manchester has to offer.

I loved my time at the University of Manchester. It is very well located for the fantastic and vibrant city centre of Manchester. The largest university in the country, it has around 30 000 students, which creates a really lively and welcoming atmosphere around campus. The university offers a vast range of subjects, and has a fantastic library. Transport is great, it is situated on the Oxford Road, which is the busiest bus route in Europe, and there is literally a bus coming along every couple of minutes. The Student Union is not the best, but I feel that is because on offer is everything that the fantastic city of Manchester has to offer. Well respected university, which offers a great life experience. I am very happy I picked this university and would recommend it to anyone.

The Univeristy of Manchester is well placed for access to all that this vibrant and cosmopolitan city has to offer. The university itself is good looking and has a great library. The campus halls are not great, basic at leats in my day (2002).
I found that the lecturers could be a little inaccessible and the highly academic scene was not for me. However, they do offer some of the best courses in the country, and it is no doubt a prestigeous place.
The Univeristy of Manchester offeres a great starting block form which to explore the vibrant metropolis which is Manchester.

I’m a current student at Manchester Uni and would recommend it to anyone who is trying to decide weather or not to attend.
The facilities and teaching staff are brilliant, as are the links to the city centre (buses galore on Oxford Road!).

I think in some ways Manchester University has become a victim of its own success. It’s a HUGE university now, since its expansion and merger with UMISTand I don’t think thats always a good thing. As a student you undoubtably benefit from world-​class facilities, millions of pounds worth of research and the best tutorsbut you can feel like another face in the crowd, lost amongst the other thousands of students there! I know I did. Tutors were quite hard to get hold of sometimes I suppose thats the price you pay for attending a ‘world class university’ as they love to keep reminding you — but for me it wasn’t really a good thing, and my work suffered because of it. It has lots of advantages of course, and I know many of my friends loved it — but I wish someone had warned me before I went about the full picture!

I spent four great years at Manchester Uni. It’s a university with a great country-​wide reputation, and with an international reputation for research. It’s also the largest university in the UK with 40,000 undergraduate students and 10,000 staff. I often forget that it recently merged with UMIST — that’s why it’s so huge.
Anyway, the main things that I loved about the university were it’s location in Manchester, which is a great city, especially for students, and also the diversity that you come across around the campus. There are students from all over the world, studying almost every subject imaginable within a very small geographical area.
It’s also notable that the university is located very much within the city. It’s isn’t a «campus university» as such, but the campus is completely mixed in with everyday businesses and amenities.
Travel is easy. You can walk to and from the city centre within 25 minutes, or take one of the multitude of buses. Oxford Road, which the university is situation on, is the busiest bus route in Europe (or so I’m told). This gives Manchester buses two distinct advantages over most others — they are really cheap, and they run very very regularly. I once remember seeing 9 double-​decker buses driving down the road one after another, with only 1 car somewhere in the middle. There are a lot of buses on Oxford Road.
