This is perhaps not going to be my longest review, as I wasn’t in The Milson Rhodes for very long. I ventured in to The Milson Rhodes with some friends as we were planning on going to Solita next door for food, but there was a short wait for a table. Given the convenient location, we decided to wait here. It doesn’t look like the largest bar around, but it’s actually surprisingly big once you’re inside. The bar is a decent size too, though as ever if you’re stood too close to either end you’re unlikely to get served. Prices are pretty similar to most other Wetherspoon pubs, so if you’ve ever been out for a pint or two in Didsbury this place should seem like a bit of a bargain by comparison. There’s also the usual food offering, as you’d expect, though obviously we didn’t take up the option this time around. No complaints from me about this one. It’s a Wetherspoon pub which does what a Wetherspoon’s should: pub grub and a decent pint whilst leaving you plenty of change.

This is a Wetherspoons pub, located on School Lane in the heart of Didsbury Village, which is close to the Metrolink and major bus routes that run via Wilmslow Road. The décor is fairly modern, and the staff clearly attempt to keep the place clean and tidy. There is a notice by the door at the moment which shows that they won ‘Best Toilet’ of the year recently. From the outside, this pub doesn’t look too big, however once you step inside you will change your mind as there is a good sized seating area downstairs and an even larger on upstairs — both floors have their own bar, however the upstairs bar is only open when they are busy. There is also a decent sized seating area out front too, which seems to attract a lot of people as soon as the sun appears. I believe there are a few seats on the upstairs balcony area. As with all Wetherspoon pubs, the food and drink is cheap and cheerful. There’s excellent deals, such as beer and a burger and once a week there is grill night and curry night too, which both come with a free drink. I recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a friendly local to enjoy a few pre-drink or a good location to catch up with old friends.

Yes this is a Weatherspoons, but being in the heart of Didsbury village makes this Weatherspoons not like any I have previously ventured into. It has a delightful cosy, quiet atmosphere during the day. The food is always well prepared and tasty, I’ve yet to have a bad meal from this spoons! And at bargain prices how can I complain. I personally enjoy their Sunday Roast specials which are always delicious, the earlier you get there the better the meat! Most recently I went for the cod and chips for £6.50, a massive piece of battered cod was brought out which I can safely safe was more than satisfying. Highly recommend!

This Wetherspoons, on the site of the former Pitcher and Piano, is so new; it still smells of new carpet! But despite its youth, the Milson Rhodes has already proven popular with drinkers in fact, it was almost full by 6pm when I went in a couple of days ago! This place is named after Dr John Milson Rhodes, a Doctor and social activist who once lived in Didsbury. I’m sure he would be pleased to lend his name to a pub that makes Didsbury beer prices accessible to us all! Despite the low prices here, the quality of booze on offer is pretty high. Unlike a lot of chain pubs, you’ll find brilliant real ales — often from microbreweries — and very cheap premium spirits, including bargain Sailor Jerry rum. Lovely! The food is just as well priced. Obviously, it’s not gourmet fare and there are much nicer places to eat nearby. But for the money, you can’t really complain. The cooked breakfasts, Sunday roasts and huge burgers are particularly good value! The opening of this Wetherspoons wasn’t without controversy. Many locals live in fear of the village being taken over by brands. But, quite frankly, it’s a bit late for that; with Costa, Zizzi, the Slug and Lettuce et al, the invasion has already happened. Anyway, I think it’s refreshing to have such a good value pub on the site of one that was so overpriced and pretentious.
