The best pancakes I’ve tasted in Manchester! And great brunch dishes. Walked past this place loads of times and never thought to go in but can’t wait to come back to try the sarnies. Great service and a great vibe.

Still harbouring the quest of finding a good breakfast. this was the next destination on my Unilocal radar. Having collected my friend from the ‘armoured train’ as he calls it .we set out our journey here laden with heavy Xmas gifts. We were immediately greeted and invited to sit at the far back near the toilets. This place is huge, full of squishy booths. Even though this place had a refurb a year ago(maybe??) It still smelt and looked freshly done. Taking a seat, it was encouraging to sneak peak at the open kitchen to our right. these chefs looked hardworking and ethusiastic. Anyway.food! I half expected it to be your generic greasy spoon. boy I was wrong lol Yes you can order a full English /scottish/Irish/meat/veggie/vegan breakfast. or casual eggs cooked in various ways. but you can also dive into some haggis, manx kippers, posh sarnies, chicken wings, falafel etc Basically there is something for everyone, no matter what time in the day it is. Mulling over it my friend settled on peanut toast with banana for £5 and I chose the Shakshouka which is thick tomato sauce with feta, pouched eggs on sour dough bread. To drink we had a choc and vanilla shake each. although the vimto slushie sounded intriguing. Right, when you order the peanut toast. make sure you absolutely love peanut butter… and ravenous. Two thick slabs of bread landed, caked in the stuff! And weighed down by a boat full of bananas. Mine looked intriguing. a kind of stew with chunks of bread… a spoonful left me pleasantly surprised. the tomato was smoked and reminded me of chipotle .the feta and poached eggs really married together well too. unfortunately this was deceptively filling. Glancing over, my friend also looked defeated behind his peanut butter mountain. so we slurped our shakes and waved the white flag. Overall a very good for value breakfast/brunch place with good friendly service at reasonable cost. I would say, come here if you are truly hungry… if not SHARE something as the portions are huge. my journey for a good brecfast in Manchester. has ended :)

Manchester’s northern quarter is literally full of places to get breakfast. This week we stopped by to try out one of the new additions to the scene in the shape of Koffee Pot. The restaurant has been designed with the modern stripped back approach that I am a big fan of. Very simple and stylish. I also like that the menu offers something a little bit different here, for breakfast you have a choice of your standard options as well as some more unusual things like my choice of haggis, eggs and spinach. My food looked great but I was not asked how I would like my eggs which could have been a nice touch. My eggs were fried so I had slight food envy when my friends were scrambled… with the amount of food I have eaten this week any chance to be healthy is more than welcome. The haggis was good though, definitely not something I have had for breakfast before but would have again. One final thing to mention is the choice of music on in the background during our visit. I am a big fan of 6 music and it’s great to hear restaurants playing it! Lovely stuff.

So The Koffee Pot is your basic breakfast spot. Not bad, but not amazing. It’s a giant spot and it’s going for that cool hipster vibe, what with the grafiti artwork on the walls and the misspelled name. But the menu is… yikes, boring. It’s all variations of your English breakfast. Or Scottish breakfast. Or veg breakfast, with all the same trimmings as the others but with veg sausage instead of regular sausage(it was really good veg sausage though). Service is ok. They’re rushing and forgot things and we had to asked a few times for items that should have been included. What can you do. Overall, if I wasn’t in the mood for an English giant breakfast and looking for something a little lighter or more interesting, I wouldn’t be happy here. Just know that when you go.

Woah. This place is exceptional — don’t be put off by the appearance as it looks like a super basic diner but the food was epic. I love the options for full breakfast — English, Irish and Scottish all catered for, as well as veggie and vegan options. I went for the full veggie breakfast and then noticed wings on the menu. And yes, they are available for breakfast so I got those too. No judgement from the waiter which was nice. There wasn’t too much of a wait for food, and I was super excited for the wings when they arrived. Smothered in hot sauce and served with a cream dipping sauce they were just perfect. So delicious. I also loved the veggie breakfast — the best veggie sausages I’ve ever had. So yup, this place was epic. I will definitely be coming back here ASAP.

The best full English /full Scottish breakfasts in the northern quarter. The Koffee Pot is your local ‘greasy spoon’ meets creative, bearded hipster. I indulged in a cooked breakfast that consisted of everything you could want, and then some. The black pudding was ace and the sausages were stunning. All washed down with a hot vimto. So Manc — I love it. They have an excellent breakfast and brunch menu, and sell light bites and sandwiches too. Their late afternoon dishes looked fab — the chorizo hash I bet is particularly good. It’s a must try!

I finally made it to Koffee Pot, to see what all the fuss was about. I never went to the old one, and whilst I knew it was there I never paid it any attention until all the fuss about them closing/moving kicked off. This is about as good as a greasy spoon can get. It’s not trendy/funky/hipster or whatever you want to call most eateries in the Northern Quarter, but it does what it does exceptionally well. It certainly has a clean, fresh and honest feel about it. Where is the limit of the Northern Quarter? This place is pretty far down Oldham St, you’re almost in Ancoats. Despite that, when I arrived on a Saturday morning at 10am it was busy inside with few available tables. I ordered an Irish breakfast, which is the same as an English breakfast but with the addition of white puddings and potato cake. Not bad value at £7 as this includes toast and tea/coffee. It was all cooked to perfection and really delicious. Comfortable, friendly, clean, efficient, great food. I’ll definitely be back. I imagine if they were more centrally located they would have long wait times for a table. What I do like about their location is that they are breathing some life back into a part of town which had previously fallen on hard times and is definitely on the up. There are so many things on their menu, I want to try them all. Especially the Manx kippers!
