I popped in a busy Sunday afternoon to The George Charles with my family and my little dog, knowing they were dog friendly. The venue was very busy but we found a little table near a dog bowl full of water so we were quite happy. The business did put me off a little because there were a number of people waiting to be seated, waiting for tables, and the staff seemed a little stressed out. However, the coffee was nice and the menu looked appetising, even though we didn’t eat I would definitely like to come back another time and try the food. The only thing I would say is not to go in with your dog on a busy Sunday afternoon; there is so much going on, and I didn’t feel comfortable having my pooch there with me as it is quite an enclosed space in there, and very noisy. I’d like to go back again another time, when the staff are less rushed off their feet so I can enjoy the experience a little more.

What a great new addition to the West Didsbury scene. The George Charles has been done out stylishly with wooden tables, candles and has a light airy feel. The atmosphere is lovely and relaxed and homely. They serve a wide range of craft beers and wines so there is a lot of choice for quiet reasonable prices. The George Charles also has a small food menu. I didn’t eat there but I would definitely head back for a meal next time I’m in the area.

So today will be my third visit to the George Charles, and can I firstly say how much I love their Christmas decorations. So beautiful and done in a very elegant and homely way that adds to the already lovely atmosphere of the place. I did say in my previous review that I would eat here and report back. Eventhough we were eating in the afternoon, I was so pleased to find out they serve brunch all day on Sundays so went for my favourite eggs Benedict. When we arrived we sat at our table for about 10minutes expecting some kind of table service(there must have been at least 5 staff members on) but soon realised this was not the case and went to the bar. The guy who served us was lovely, but when asking for a drinks menu couldn’t find one, when asking for a food menu– couldn’t find one… When we ordered our food my friend asked if she could have white bread with her scrambled eggs– the waitress had no idea. She went to find out… And never came back. The food was all fine, nothing negative to say at all. I ate all my eggy-pegs but it was also nothing special and of all the places that do food in Didsbury this is certainly not the best. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The staff need to be more equipped in this place as they never seem to know what they’re doing and there always seems to be something that they just don’t know the answer to. It’s a beautiful place to be, but certainly not the best.

Not eaten here yet, but from first impressions the old skool tables, and good ale at £3.40, and background music whilst sat infront of the airy & large windows were great. Felt stylish, but not hipster about it. Certainly will be back, and will check out the food menu next time :)
