Me and my co-diner eat here recently, nice décor decent service and top notch food which on the discounted price got us a full meal and half a pint for about 6 quid. See you soon, The El Food Brothers

In all my time in Manchester this was first visit to The Blue Pig. We initially only went in for some after work drinks but got tempted in by the food… They have happy hour 5 – 7 where a bottle of wine is £10, a pint of Becks for £3 and cocktails for £5 or some premium ones for £6. We both had to Bacon Chop to eat which was very reasonable at £7.95 and it was really delicious. It came served with fat chips, a fried egg and caramelised pineapple, not one if you are trying to be healthy! The staff were great, very helpful and looked after our every need! They do ‘Punk Bingo’ from 8pm on a Thursday night for £1 a go with a shot of tequila… I wish I didn’t work Friday mornings because I could see myself getting carried away! The whole place is relaxed and fun, I will definitely be returning for Thursday night bingo.

And so we find our selves in The Blue Pig, offering 50% off selected meals, which on closer inspection, all come from the same magical animal that is the pig. We enter ‘the Pig’ and head straight to the bar, only because we can’t really tell where is a good place to sit. We wait a few minutes, the guy behind the bar is making some complicated looking coffees. Coffees in pubs are bullshit, if you want a coffee, go to Starbucks or one of the hipster coffee places, it takes up valuable pint pulling time. Its a long wait, but we have already got our minds set on chowing down on our chosen bits of pig so wait it out. Its a Messy Mexican for me, and a bacon chop with egg for El Food two. It comes with a pineapple, which we both agree is bullshit, but easily removed. The food takes a while, but at least we have a couple of halves of some guest ales to enjoy, at around £1.75 for a half, its better than some of the places charging £5−6 a pint. We pass the time noting the hipster light bulbs and eventually spot the titular blue pig on the ceiling. When the food does arrive though, its all good, it looks nice without being too overly hipster-ised. Its approaching a bucket of chips, but at least its a plate(albeit not a round plate). The burger is chunky, but actually could have been a bit more Mexican for my tastes. The bacon chop and egg look good, and the pineapple is swiftly ditched in the chip pot. At £6.60 all in for the burger and half a pint, its a decent lunch. The chop was even cheaper. Its usually around £10 for main on the normal menu, which still isn’t too bad. Overall: 8 bacon chops out of 10 blue pigs

One Sunday afternoon I decided to go out for Sunday lunch. Well it was a roast dinner to be precise. The service was good. I had the roast pork which was very good and tasty. One of my friends had roast lamb. She said that was good too. We decided to have a sweet which we plumped for the chocolate brownie with caramel. This is the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon! The Blue Pig is good value for money

As a born and bred Yorkshirewoman it should not surprise me when Mancunian establishments mess up Yorkshire puddings, and yet it does. Of course they’re not going to be able to make them as good as my mum does, but they’re not that hard! The Yorkshires at The Blue Pig were a huge disappointment and brought what could have been a 5* Sunday lunch down to a 4*. Sunday roast with lamb was not cheap — £14.95 — but was mostly delicious. The meat was incredibly tender and flavourful, the mint sauce seemed homemade and was great, all the veg including cauliflower cheese(!) was awesome, and the roasties were great. The Yorkshire however was huge and flabby and rubbery and just odd. It seems that some places favour the massive Yorkshire pudding but I’d rather it have been smaller and better. It just didn’t look or taste how I wanted it to, unfortunately. I left almost all of it sadly. Service was friendly and prompt. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait for a table but it was much quicker and we were seated as soon as we got our drinks. I’ll be back soon to sample the new cocktail menu, though I’m not sure I can risk going back for Sunday lunch again.

It’s nice, it just didn’t wow me in anyway. Staff were pleasant enough and a decent selection of beers, however for what I am used to getting in the Northern Quarter now it didn’t leave me wanting to rush back. This said, it was 1pm in the afternoon and I only had a drink not food, so giving them another shot and testing everything they do is only fair. And in all honest some of the stuff coming out of the kitchen smelt and looked pretty good! The overall atmosphere was a little dim and subdued but again that could be down to the 1pm time slot. Ok, I’ll be back Blue Pig, don’t be so blue next time and make me make you my local :)

Great atmosphere here! Came with. Big rowdy group of teachers for an end of term shindig and they were brilliant! It is described as a French restaurant though not sure how French the décor of food is… This aside the food is very tasty and comes v quickly. We ordered the falafel sandwich in ciabatta with avocado, it was creamy and just Fab. Would deffo come here for summer time drinks again a lovely outdoor area and staff were very lovely and helpful.

This is a bit of an odd one… Based 100% on the food, forsaking presentation, atmosphere, drink selection and anything to do with the venue… I used for the first time for a date night(I didn’t wanna cook so I cheated and got something a lil fancier than your average kebab delivered). The food came promptly and all foil wrapped, I had called the restaurant with a request of no mayo on one of the 2 identical orders and if I’m honest I wasn’t holding out much hope as they were both the slider selection of burgers(3 slider size sample burgers called ‘Tarantino’s suitcase’) so I was expecting either Mayo on both or mayo on either, what I got was exactly as ordered and the delivery guy told me which was which as directed by the restaurant. The food was still hot, it was well wrapped so had not lost its order and it was delicious! The slider burgers made a lovely 3part burger, pulled pork on one, chilli beef on the other and the final but best was the exceptionally smokey flavour on the ‘royale with cheese’. The skin on sweet potato fries and the chilli beef fries were also very awesome! All in all this was a delightful meal and a very successful date! I very much hope the venue is as good as the food and I can be certain that I will be checking in there before long. Also I very much recommend :)

I must admit the Blue Pig is normally on my list of bars to visit whenever I’m in the Northern Quarter. I like its laid back vibe and the extensive mix of music it plays. The eclectic wooden décor gives the Blue Pig a bit on individuality. The drink prices are reasonable and they serve a good range of cocktails, beers and ciders. I have never eaten here but I have heard from other people that the food is second to none especially the Blue Pig Sunday Roast. One of the Northern Quarters best bars.

Inspired by Cafes and bars in Paris, Blue pig has added a further dimension to the quirkiness of Northern Quarter. Under the same ownership as the Odd bar chain, you can expect the same quality of F&B in this magnificently put together establishment. Although I’ve yet to have the pleasure of dining properly here, I have sampled a few beverages in the company of some fine folk and music. Once again my story is one of a Saturday night(For someone who dislikes going out at the weekend, I’m making a habit of it recently) On this particular Saturday night, the appeal of Blue Pig as always was its mellow atmosphere on an otherwise mega busy Northern Quarter. This was as always a welcoming scenario as our aim was to have a few civilized drinks accompanied by something resembling a decent conversation or two. The DJ was playing an exceptional mixture of old and new scores from varying genres. The beverage menu catered for everyone’s taste and satisfaction and the evening went swimmingly well until

I came to the blue pig for a work team lunch — we like to try different places. As we walked in the décor was fabulous, quite dark but with a definate exotic feel. The menu has an eclectic style with tapas and houmous alongside a blue cheese burger, steaks, fancy salads and wraps/sandwiches. The staff were friendly and quick to see to us on arrival but we were disappointed in the wait before food — I estimate around 40 minutes from ordering. I have to say though, when the food came it was worth the wait. I had plumped for the halloumi, sweet potato and honey roasted fig salad, and had ordered some bread and zhoug(a spicy parsley/coriander dip) on the side. It was *fantastic* Juicy figs against creamy halloumi and beautifully roasted sweet potato made a taste explosion, set off perfectly by the green salad(warning though– heavily features rocket if you aren’t a fan). The bread turned out to be plenty to share with the table, it was a little oily but tasted great, and the zhoug was a hot treat for the tastebuds. If it wasn’t for the speed I’d be giving it 5 stars. .I might just have to visit again soon to see how it compares!

Looking for somewhere to eat with a mixture of dining companions — veggies, meat eaters, big and small appetites — I instantly thought of the Blue Pig. With their small plate options and larger salads, sandwiches and burgers, I knew there would definitely be something for everyone. Service was friendly and quick, checking up on us frequently as we were taking a while to make our minds and constantly getting distracted by catching up with an old work colleague. I went for the special beef brisket sandwich with rocket and red onion marmalade, with a side of fries and it was absolutely delicious! The meat was super soft, almost like it been ‘French dipped’ in some gravy, but — as it was served on ciabatta bread — there was none of the sogginess sometimes found in this style of sandwich. The side of fries, served in a lovely blue and white bowl, were demolished in moments and perfectly seasoned. On Thursdays they are hosting a new ‘Blues Pig’(geddit?) night, with a focus on live music, which was a great addition to our night.
