Conveniently located in the heart of Chorlton, Atlantic Fish offers a standard fish and chip shop menu at a reasonable price. Firstly, the service. When I visited but the staff were all very young and seemed thoroughly overwhelmed. There was very little food ready to go, meaning those who wanted even very commonly ordered dishes(like cod) had to wait ~10 minutes for it. A couple of customers walked out rather than wait. The staff were also unclear on what they had available. With my battered sausage and chips, I ordered a pineapple ring… After about 4 minutes I was told there weren’t any left by a pretty unapologetic young lady. The food was reasonable considering the low price. The chips were a little puny so by the time I’d got home they were quite greasy, however they tasted good. Whilst ok for what I paid I don’t think I’ll visit Atlantic again, I’d be happier to pay a little extra for more pleasant service and food that is available.

I walked in and looked at the basic items on display and asked for something on the menu. The petulant female staff member bluntly said Didn’t have it. We asked for another item: same response. When we walked out, realised that one of the items we eventually ordered wasn’t supplied. This was a Saturday(May this year) and both female staff member blatantly could not be bothered. Well sorry to trouble you: we won’t bother you again. The food was well below basic as well. If it’s on the menu isn’t there a chance it’s in a freezer somewhere? Shouldn’t you at least have offered to look? Business must be booming to afford to lose customers.

There’s not really too much to say about this chippy except that the fish are massive and delicious as are their fishcakes. What lets them down are the chips, which are so oily you inadvertantly swallow them when you’re trying to chew. So my advice is get your fish from the Atlantic and get your chips round the corner from The Baths Super Bar.

Fish and chips almost on my doorstep! Good/bad! I always enjoy the fish and chips here and the turnover is pretty high so it should all be recently cooked. The portions are absolutely massive by the way. I wouldn’t get a large unless you’re sharing. Also quite reasonably priced, I don’t know why it’s classed as £££! Sometimes I wish they did cheesy chips though, just for when you’re not having fish, obviously! The man behind the counter that is ALWAYS there said we don’t do cheese we’re a fish and chip shop. He may have a point but…

I’ve only been once but I bought two chip butties and two cans for a mere fiver — can’t say fairer than that. There were so many chips I didn’t really know what to do with then, and they were as I would expect from a chippy. I would happily visit again.

finally broke my duck on sunday with horrendous hangover and starving and craving nutrients to replace lost electrolites a few light ales in the elektrik bar next door and into the«has this been here for years or new» chippy of chorlton. choices of fish like the old days and choices of other things too whilst a plasma tv reminds you its not 1978 and theonly place to go is the spread eagle. my fish was massive, took 3 of us to eat it, chips good but not amazing but i dont know if chips can be amazing, saveloy v tasty. staff efficient but not in love with you, why would they? around 6 quid for one serving that fed 3 people by accident, i usually pile into the retro canadian charcoal pit post pub, now i have another option. well worth a visit. as good as battered cod? or parkers in stretford, ill reserve judgement for consistencey. so far parkers stretfrod near kellogs unsung but top top quality.

I was slightly dubious when this first opened, as there are already lots of fast food outlets in Chorlton– but the smell that met me when I got off the bus was too tempting. Fish and Chips *2 and some Manchester Caviar came to just over £10, there was LOTS of fish, the Manchester caviar was really good, the chips were a little bit too greasy for my liking. It’s very clean and bright, maybe to attract the unsuspecting sozzled Chorltonites!

I was very reluctant to deviate from my tradition of getting fish and chips from the Baths Supper Bar. They were good, so why should I go anywhere else? However, the tempting smells and the long queues indicated that there was something special about Chorlton’s newcomer chippy Atlantic. My excitement increased when I saw that they served small fish and small chips(£3.50). The portion sizes at chip shops are usually too big for me, and even after sharing the chips among my housemates I usually end up throwing away the cold greasy remains. I had to wait 5 minutes for my small fish which was fine. You can stand out of the way and watch the TV without worrying about getting grease stains on your clothes — the interior of the shop is very clean. However, on getting my fish and chips home I was slightly disappointed. The chips were very limp and greasy and didn’t have a nice flavour to them. I still ended up chucking half of them away. Determined to see the attraction I went back again. I ordered my small fish as soon as I entered, so they were able to start it cooking. The man who served me then proceeded to stare at me for the 10 minutes I was waiting. Every time I looked over at him he gave me a wink. Harmless, I’m sure, but it made me feel uncomfortable. At least they were showing a Man United match on the TV which came to my rescue until my small fish was ready. Again, the chips were rather flaccid and disappointing. Both times the fish was edible, but nothing special. Baths Supper Bar — I’ll be back.
