Stevens Scanlan

Now, I’ve moved once a year since I was 18 so I’ve had a fair few landlords. When I say this company was the worst one ever, therefore, I’m sure you are already aware that is quite a feat. Having clawed my way through the horror of student landlords, unreturned bonds and sagging ceilings, I thought as a recognised professional renter I would be treated with something at least moderately approaching respect.
I could not have been more wrong.
For starters, although my flat was in Leeds, and there is a branch of the company in Leeds, I was forced to deal with the Manchester company. Obviously, and bewilderingly, this phenomenon is not restricted to Stevens Scanlan, but I have never before been saddled with such an incompetent representative. The sort of incompetent that made me wonder on a daily basis how much money she was getting for damaging my quality of life. It would probably take the entire internet to catalogue everything that occurred during that one year (last year), so let us focus on the overriding horror. The flooding of the flat.
A whole day, despite repeated phone calls and eventual tears, to get an emergency plumber. Five, yes FIVE weeks to get someone in to clean the carpets. During those weeks, my tiny flat was infused with the scent of rotten fish and my main room (out of essentially two) nothing more than a cement floor with spiky nails. Add to that the fact that my boyfriend had recently moved in with his unecessarily massive television, and I’m sure you can appreciate this was less than ideal. And naturally, I was paying for the privilege! Inevitably it was the threat of legal action which saved me, although the prolonged damp did leave me with an infestation of weird black crawly things.
Of course, the incompetance had to turn my way at some point, and sure enough the brief leaving appointment left me with my full deposit (something I had only previously encountered in fairy-​tales) and a mysterious cheque for some overpaid rent, which I cashed without one tiny moral qualm!
Please avoid this company. For your own sanity.
