After having not been to the curry mile in just over a year I decided to venture back. When my friend asked me which restuarant we should go to, this was my first choice. The décor is crisp and fresh with white and green chairs, walls and table decorations to match. The staff are always welcoming and very friendly, they wait on you hand and foot and are happy to suggest items on the menu or adjust dishes to your taste. I ordered the mixed starter which was comprised of a selection of five different small Indian nibbles, perfect to get the taste buds tingling before the main course. For main I had the lamb rogan josh, the meat of which was so tender and the flavours of the curry were absolutely superb. I do not have a bad word to say about this place. Definitely a must if you’re visiting Rusholme.

This resturant was ok! food took a while for it to come the place was almost empty The food was ok just standard and nothing to shout about and prices were higher than some of the other resturants in the same versinity.

Always consistent, friendly, great quality, lots of choice. Top 5 food hygiene. I’ve tried lots of the menu, working my way through, here I feel comfortable not only with the ambiance and staff, but knowing the food is great quality and tasty.

Myself and my insignificant other along with her work college Went on the recommendations of the hotel in manchester we were staying at. Lovely food, i have had better, however this for was very much at the higher end of the food quality chain. altho a little more expensive than a normal curry house, i believed we paid £48 for 3 people with starters, Nann, rice and main dish which i guess is on the cheap side the staff were somewhat friendly and helped explain the menu us in great detail. over all it was very much a nice meal out, and one of the best indian restaurants along the curry miles we have been informed by many people since.

The food is really amazing. I have tried virtually all the restaurants on the curry mile and Shere Khan is the best. The food at Shere Khan is premium food so a little dearer than a normal curry house but well worth the price. The quantity of the food was more than enough and the taste was very very authentic. I like spice and mine was spicy, my wife likes mild and hers was mild, something other restaurants cannot get right. The lamb handi is stunning. I am already planning another visit there. The only problem was that there is no sign that says entering the best curry house on the curry mile 3 starters, 2 main courses, drinks, condiments and extras only £38 !!!(proper good value)

I looked on this site for a good restaurant near where my partner and I would be staying for the weekend in Manchester; encouraged by the reviews and the late opening hours, I chose Shere Khan and didn’t regret it! The food here is absolutely fantastic and the service is quick, efficient and courteous. The poppadums at the start of the meal came with a selection of 5 different sauces. The chicken pakora knocked my socks off and my partner loved his sheikh kebab. Our mains were a lamb bhuna(him) and a keema bhuna(me); the keema was actually out of this world(I’m a student in Birmingham and long-time ‘resident’ of the Balti Triangle, and I can’t think of a dish that even comes close to that keema!). The accompaniments(plain rice for me, a biryani rice for him) were flavoursome and well-cooked. The pistachio kulfi at the end of the meal had a creamy, sweet taste(devoid of the ‘artificial’ taste that I’ve often found at other restaurants) and overall it was one of the best meals I’ve ever tasted. We didn’t arrive until just before 11pm(having driven up from London) and were made to feel like welcome regulars. Even at that late hour the restaurant was clean and tidy, and the staff were not only clean and tidy too, but friendly and swift to get us what we asked for. Our drinks arrived within minutes and I’m assuming it was the owner himself who took our order(as well as having greeted us at the door), which added a nice personal touch. He responded knowledgeably to my questions about the menu and even asked us if we’d like our meals cooked normal or a little bit spicy(we opted for the latter it was fantastic). We were allowed plenty of time to eat each course but once we’d finished, the next course arrived quickly and with a minimum of fuss. Polite enquiries were made as to how we were enjoying our food and we were left alone to enjoy our evening without feeling deserted(there were always at least two waiters on patrol!). When we left at around half-midnight, customers were still coming in and being warmly greeted even though the restaurant was due to close at 1am. It’s evidently a popular spot and it’s really easy to see why. The only(very slight) criticism is that the music was a bit on the loud side. Poppadums, starters(for 2), mains(for 2), dessert(for 1) and drinks came to just over £40(including the cost of a single rose from a seller coming round the tables; the money for it was added to the bill. Nice touch). I would definitely recommend Shere Khan and can’t wait for another excuse to go to Manchester so I can go back!

I’ve introduced so many friends to this place that I should probably be getting some sort of commission. It was the first time I had been truly impressed with Manchester’s famous Curry Mile, as the service was friendly and accommodating, the menu varied with generous portions and the setting relaxed but special feeling. This will be a short review because I really can’t fault it. Perhaps it’s slightly on the expensive side but the fact that I bumped into Conor Oberst here(the person I most wanted to meet in the world) as well as Johnny Marr means it will forever have a very special place in my heart. I will keep coming back for the delicious, authentic food, excellent service, and welcoming atmosphere.

Wow. Has Manchester disappeared up its own hype when it comes to our Indian food? We think we’re top of the pile with our Curry Mile; we forget that Bradford and Brick Lane exist elsewhere in the UK. Then somewhere along the line, the Curry Mile became uncool amongst the knowledgeable. I have old university friends who are shocked that I even venture there. «The Curry Mile’s never been good,» they mourn, their tastebuds having apparently developed amnesia. Suddenly it’s all about Castlefield or the suburbs. Well, look what I did? I flip-reversed it people, yeah! Let’s take authenticity, soul and the down-to-earth factor(dated décor, mismatched crockery) out of the equation for a moment. Let’s remove our curry snobbery and calm down, and simply remember what great food tastes like and fab service does for us. Mancunians might become curry-weary, but when we bring our parents, out of town friends or visitors here, all they want is a tasty Ruby and a nice pint. They want their food to come promptly and they want it to taste good. I’m an indie business girl, and when Shere Khan became our Curry Mile destination I’ll admit my heart sank somewhat. A chain? But all chains have roots, and these haven’t been forgotten here. You still get your Vimto lollies at the end of the meal, chatty service, and ridiculously tasty food. I’m about as much an expert on Indian cuisine as I am on Mexican(not at all, basically), but I know I liked this. I always go down the road of grabbing a chef’s special if I’m unsure, and I had the Karahi Fish. The fish was crisp, came in huge hunks and flaked away deliciously, the sauce was nom-worthy, the shashliks looked incredible and came with a medium sauce that I kept nicking as a dip. For once, pilau rice wasn’t technicolor but saffron yellow with flecks of green and red. The peshwari naan was not only the best I’d ever tasted, it was the best BREAD I’d ever tasted. I could have eaten it as dessert. The great thing about Shere Khan is that it’s a catch-all. You can take the whole family and there’ll be something to suit anyone. It scored major brownie points with me for being the first place to present Indian food my other half actually got excited about. He’s not much of a curry fan and he was raving about his dish. The service was friendly and impeccable, and everyone left happy. Shall we call it the Curry Mile’s Guilty Pleasure?

Like many chains of anything, Shere Khan suffers from gaining capital but losing its soul somewhere along the way. It’s the common curse of moving from independent roots to national commerce, and it seems as if only the little places can have that feel of actual loving the customer. In Shere Khan the food is good, and the service is generally good as well, but the whole thing feels contrived to simply take your money. One could argue that this ultimately doesn’t matter because you get what you paid for, but somehow this seems to be missing the point of dining out. It is for the experience as much as it is for the food, and as Shere Khan is slightly more expensive than many of its counterparts, one has to wonder. Surely as a chain they could charge less? Isn’t that the whole point of them? Oh well, no point worrying about it in the end, because anyone sensible will simple take their custom elsewhere. Now if only there weren’t so many idiots in the world…

Without much thought me and a few chums wandered into this Indian eatery. Sitting down the restaurant was busy and the service a tad on the slow side, but besides this the food was good with a big variety. Some argue that shere khan is overpriced for what it is; they maintain you get equivalent for less elsewhere. Yer I can see their point but at the same time shere khan is a nice dining experience which is often packed because of it. For those unknowing shere khan has actually been shut down in the past and I underline past because this is now, sadly though it can turn a lot of people away. So far so well hit and miss. That’s the best way to describe shere khan some experience great food from the cocunutty and spicy korma to the sizzling dishes… others sit around waiting for a long time for service and having all sorts of mix ups. Because of this controversy mentioned before shere khan underwent a major facelift, so nowadays it’s a nice environment. Ultimately my advice is shop around.

A visit to the curry mile is an absolute must. I was intruded to Shere Khan a good number of years ago and when ever in the area of the mile I mainly headed for here. It was probably my favourite and the full experience always gave me a buzz. Apart from been sometimes too busy for comfort I have never had reason to complain but over the last few years they have been forced to close a couple of times from the environmental /food hygiene services and because of this reason I now give my custom elsewhere. To be forced to close on grounds of hygiene and risk to the public is extremely bad but for this to happen more than once and over a relatively short period of time means to me to give this place a miss. This is an absolute shame as the Shere Khan must have had the best name on the very competitive curry mile. I have given this 2 stars because of my concerns but in the past I would have given 5 stars.

It seems Shere Khan suffers from Hit and Miss syndrome, with the misses, unfortunately getting a little more frequent. It’s not that often I eat in Rusholme these days as there are far(for the most part) better Indian/Pakistani restuarants around Manchester than here. It’s more of a tourist trap than a serious contender for a food village(like West Didsbury for example). That said, it’s a riot of colour, smells and noise come the evening(and into the early hours) so I wouldn’t wish it’s despise: more it could do with raising the bar a little. Shere Khan was one of the my personal favourites a few years ago(just starting on my journey into adulthood and indian foodhood) so it retains a place in my heart for its memories. However returning of late I knew that perhaps my palette was a little more discerning these days as I wasn’t at all astounded by the food quality. It was decent and you thwacked it down your throat without anything such as a care, but it’s not commendable in the way the likes of the Gurkha Grill is. It’s a pleasant environment(no velvet flocked wallpaper here) and of course always packed to the rafters but it’s advisable to shop around these days.

Having read the good reviews of Shere Khan, I beg to differ. Last week my other half and I went to this place with my 9 month old daughter. The place looked decent from outside hence we decided to give it a go. Once we got inside, the place was absolutely busy being a Saturday night however we didnt have to wait much to be seated. We ordered cheese kabab which was not too bad. We placed an order for the main course which never seemed to arrive. My little girl got really restless after a while as the place was extremely noisy. The music was very loud and the people around were talking louder to make themselves heard. Apart from this one of the waiters dropped the food tray and broke a dozen plates on the floor! The mess was quickly cleaned up and taken to the kitchen. The ambience was far from pleasant hence we decided to leave asking the waiter to pack our main course so that we could have at home. After reaching home we opened our food parcel and got a nasty surprise! The food portions were miniscule and hardly enough to serve two people. The naan bread was hard and not packed to retain the moisture and softness. We had ordered butter naan and there was not even a trace of butter on it. Apart from all this I choked on a broken glass piece. YES A SHARPPIECEOFGLASS that came from the curry! I am assuming this came from the broken bunch of plates which they took to the kitchen. Overall it was very disappointing and the bill at £40 wasnt cheap either. This could be a one off experience, but I am definitely not going back there.

Unfortunately this restaurant was in the press a year ago for breaching of the food safety law and was fined £40,000.(Cockroach-in-poppadom restaurant — MEN article 31/8/2006). The restaurant has since undergone a major face lift and a new management has been put in place. The restaurant is part of a big group and I HOPE the senior management have adhered to all the court recommendations.

Shere Khan is a stalwort of the Rusholm Curry Mile. Many curry houses along the mile come and go over the years, but this place has been here as long as I can remember. Amusingly, most of these establishments claim to have won one award or another, but the quality of the food here is geniunely outstanding. My personal fave is Lamb Rogan Josh, just the right temperature and tasty as hell. Why can’t you get a curry this good in Germany?!

The first time I came to Shere Khan it was for mad-metal-alex’s 18th birthday. Somehow he’d been bright enough to skip a year of school somewhere along the way and had ended up as a 17 year old student living with me in halls. You can tell from the exterior that this is one of the best restaurants on the curry mile. It just has class rather than the usual neon signs.

Shere Khan is one of the best restaurants on the ‘curry mile’ in Rusholme. The interior is simple and fresh and you are not crammed up against another table, as is sometimes the case. The food is beautiful with big portions and the service is quick and friendly. It is easy to miss as they don’t have neon lights at the front but is well worth a visit. Highly recommended.
