I enjoy shopping at this Sainsbury’s every time I stay in Manchester. There are always fresh fruits and vegetables well stocked and I love their ready-made fresh selections. I much prefer this location to the one in Shannon, where I had to pay twice as much for the same amount of groceries. Some must eats here are the mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes, egg salad sandwiches, fresh pastries, and(last but never least) the Walkers crisps. The staff is always friendly and helpful… And I always appreciate their patience in dealing with(me) an American who has strange questions at times.

Sainsbury’s knows its customers so well. Everything an office workers wants is on offer — chocolate fingers, cookies, big bags of crisps… this is how we get through the week. I hate being a female office stereotype but I often pop in here for a can of diet coke and a sugar/salt fix. It’s predominantly popular with those people like myself who suddenly realise it’s not the weekend just yet and need a little pick me up and I can’t imagine doing your weekly shop here. In fact, don’t even consider it. As Greg suggests, if you’re staying at a nearby hotel Sainsburys is a great place to pick up some goodies rather than eyeing up the mini-bar, and it does some great cheap pink fizz if you’re feeling in the mood for something bubbly. Pop in for lunch but go somewhere else for your dinner.

It’s like a convenience store and little grocery store like in Chicago and New York downtown areas. What was nice to find were little packets of fruits, sandwichs, a lot of things that you can use on lunch break. If you stay the expensive hotel, this is where to get bottled water and snacks. If you see people walking around with orange plastic bags, they came from Sainbury’s and just ask them for directions.

I’m not a gigantic fan of this Sainsbury’s. It looks and feels quite sterile and old fashioned compared to other local branches. I take my hat off to them today however, as they had tubs of buffalo mozzarella and ricotta in the dairy section, spinach in the grocery section and a choice of two or three different free range eggs. What’s more, I only had to queue for a few minutes. A message to my sweetheart: Open the prosecco and turn the oven back on! We will eat canelloni tonight after all!
