This place has recently closed down in the Printworks which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. However, I preferred this to some of the others around in the area. It used to be a very spacious upstairs venue with a couple of bars along with smaller area downstairs making it a popular nightclub alternative to the bigger clubs of Pure and Tiger Tiger nearby. Personally, I only went once and they had closed the upper area and the drinks were rather expensive and the interior wasn’t too great. Wasn’t a personal favourite and definitely isn’t anyone’s favourite anymore having been closed down.

i’ve only ever been to opus on the monday which is the student night. it’s a good place to go as the drinks are 90p(only single vodka + mixer, cheap versions of wkds such as vhfs and some shots i think), and comparing it to other places that charge ridiculous prices for vhfs such as £2.50, it isn’t so bad. they have 3 separate rooms to suit people’s different music tastes; r&b downstairs, dance/house/chart music upstairs and an indie room. it’s good if you listen to different music or would like a change, as you can drunkenly stagger from room to room. good atmosphere and the people seem friendly enough. however, i’ve heard it can be a bit chavtastic at the weekend, which is the downside i suppose.

Opus! If there was one club I would defnitely even avoid looking at, it would be Opus! I would not enter this place even if it is probably the last place on planet earth!(Yes, my disgust to this place reaches such high levels!) The club is not a bad looker, its got the right ambience and space, the drinks are a little on the expensive side. What makes this place a big no no, is the crowd! The crowd is just hungry, moral-less guys who just want to come in and yes, have some ‘fun’ in their language! Not so pleasant for the lovely girls who come in here to have a good night! And that my friends, makes Opus, the biggest NOT decider when you’re thinking of clubs!

MMmmmmmm its okay, another giant club again within 3 feet of pure, tiger tiger and birdcage. Opus has lots of floors lots of bars and not a lot which distinguishes it from the shit holes it calls neighbours. Fight through the gangs of folk and you can just about move on the dance floors and sort of make strange hand gestures at which drinks you want to order.

Oh, it seems I am not the only one to have nothing but scorn for Opus and all its pretensions. That can often be the beauty of Unilocal; to see your deepest thoughts confirmed and vindicated by mass opinion. It makes me feel that little bit stronger. Returning to the topic at hand, Opus is a big cess-pit, in the middle of the even bigger cess-pit that it is The Printworks. There is little of value to be found there at the best of times, and Opus adds nothing extra. Like all of the clubs here, it’s full of people who are at that distressing age where they are starting to realise they may be too old for going out into clubs and getting hammered, but are determined to drown that annoying voice of reason in vodka, lager and despair. Since a club is essentially built on its customer base, having a customer base that can be best described as ‘rowdy’, and worst described as ‘depressing representations of the modern collapse of integrity and class’, is not a stunning first move. Everything else about the place follows suit, with overpriced entry, overpriced drinks and overpaid bouncers carrying the sort of God complexes normally reserved for oil sheiks. Just avoid it.

Sorry Opus but it’s one star from me too. Awful place, awful music, awful people, just awful. I had the worst night out I’ve ever had here and I made a solemn promise to myself that I will never, ever go back. Ever. Bleugh. Well known for trouble, this club’s reputation is what gives the Printworks such a bad name, people in there seem to want to cause a fight and that very much includes the door staff. I would advise everyone to avoid this place like the plague. Go ANYWHERE else in Manchester and I can pretty much guarantee you’ll have a more enjoyable evening. Ewww.

OK so no matter how could this bar was it was always going to be a slightly traumatic experience going to The Printworks for a night out. On my friends request I entered this hellhole of a place dragging my heels with a sulky face and my best ‘this is the last place on earth I would like to be right now face’…she didn’t take the hint! This place is faaaar to up itself and plays the worst type of music ever made in the history of man-Modern Day R&B! They had a VIP area for those with precious VIP wristbands– quite frankly I would rather spend the night in a loo cubicle thanks. If you like Printworks and you think your cool and happening(but your really not) this is your new home from home!

Opus? No-pus. The dictionary definition of pretentiousness points to ‘ostentatious display’. Generally, I find that the club experience is somewhat inverted. The more expensive it is, the more status it has, the worse the experience. I speak from my own personal history. Once the significant other of a musician, I have in my time received a few passports to VIP areas, which, I can assure you, are more dull than the clubs in which they are situated. Does a member of your party drink beer? Tough. In the VIP section it’s Grey Goose with cranberry or orange juice or a kick in the teeth.(Disclaimer: Grey Goose is great, I’m just pointing out that if vodka isn’t your thing, you’re done for.) When it runs out, the service is so dreadful that you and your then-sister-in-law have to pretend to be a pair of Lee Sharpe’s seemingly endless gaggle of harpies(S-harpies?) to obtain anything else to wet your whistle. If you’re not suffering this, you’re stepping over ex-Big Brother contestants in a sea of nostril dandruff to get to the bathroom or being accosted by a surprisingly short Jesse Metcalfe when you eventually manage to evacuate said bathroom. All these things happened. No, but… this is true. It was the opening of 50 Dover Street in London. We vacated the futile VIP area in an attempt to purchase drinks, four standard, four shots. This cost us £80. Movida was no better, that much-celebrated hangout for the famous and photographed. Never in my life have I experienced bar staff so rude. Perhaps they have been maltreated by steroid-pumped ex boyband members. You never know. And so, all this subjective rambling brings me to Opus, my all-time worst club experience. It was £10 to get in. At this point I was a postgraduate student, scraping by, but, for my friend’s birthday I thought it could be worth it. How wrong I was. The venue is vast, yet so inexplicably stuffed with inhabitants, one cannot move from one end to the other without puncturing a fake boob or tearing off an extension. Never has a place had so few bar staff to serve so many. I literally waited about 45 minutes for a drink, if not more. Using my noggin I ordered two, as Hell may have glaciered before I obtained another. Yet again we come to just how crowded it was. Holding the drinks aloft to prevent spillage, I realised when I found a gap in which to stand that I’d been knocked into so many times, my beverages were near empty anyway. Pressing on, I eventually suffered such claustrophobia that I thought it wise to find a speck on the stairs in which to repose. I promise you, I was not there five seconds before a bouncer told me I had to «move on». Why, exactly? Who was I bothering? I wasn’t blocking the entrance, not that they should have let any more people in(ever heard of capacity, Opus?). I had simply found sanctuary in a small, discreet gap on a set of stairs that simply led from one atrocious club floor to another. Sometimes, experiences scar you to the extent of shuddering whenever you walk past the place in question, never mind vowing only to re-enter it in a coffin(although if the pallbearers underwent anything like my crowd plus aloft beverages fiasco, I dread to think what could occur). Some people describe their personal insurmountable tasks as their Everest. I describe my personal hell as my Opus.

Great location as its right in the city centre at the Printworks. During the day/early evening it is ok. Food is nice and the comedy nights are good. Its not my cup-of-tea late on at night though as you can get some lairy idiots in there.

I went to OPUS for the first time the other weekend. It was a great night out. We got in free as we had some discount vouchers for entry. But i think its usually abour £6 to get in otherwise. It’s a large club with two floors RnB downstairs and dance music upstairs. Considering how busy it gets, its not too hard to get served at the bars as there are two downstairs and two bars upstairs. The dance floors are large There is a VIP area downstairs which you must have your VIP wristband on to enter. This area is quieter with seating and a bar. It was a great night out!

The Opus is a wicket night out in Manchester. Its is the print works so its east to reach, even if you live in the greater Manchester area and need to get a train in from Victoria. Opus is a comedy club crossed with a night club. They have some good comedians and some bad ones so it’s best to read the reviews on their website before you pick your night out. The night club is bigger than I expected, I think it’s underground because there is quite a trek downstairs to get into the venue. The music is current and trendy and there is a good atmosphere. It’s not that busy of a venue but it’s good for a laugh

This is probably the best place of the lot to hang out in the printworks in manchester. It has about four different rooms boasting a restuarant and 3 different dancefloors playing different kinds of music to cater for all different tastes and preferences. The drinks are quit cheap and you can also dine in their restuarant which is open for most of the day until the early evening. Wednesday to saturday are probably the best nights to visit the place as the atmosphere is very lively. It’s mainly crowded with students who like to have a good time. You also have to be reminded that the security is quite tight and they are very strict when it comes to the dress code, no trainer or hoodies allowed. It’s normally open till about 3. Highly recommended for anybody that out to have a good time.

Opus is located in the Printworks right in the centre of Manchester. It consists of a comedy venue and restaurant, 2 clubs and 3 bars. My office went of a staff night out here and it was a really good night. We started off in the restaurant where we eat and then watched a highly amusing trio of comedians. To be honest i didn’t really rate the food as being great but the service was very prompt, we were serve almost immediately. This was on a Friday night and the venue was packed and really popular but the comedians were really good. After the comedians had finished we were ushered into the club downstairs for the night. The club we were in was very spacious but also quite costly when it came to buying drinks. The environment was quite lively and from what i remember the music was quite cheesy, ideal for a staff night out. If you enjoy a good laugh and a few drinks then I would deffinetly give it a go. When we went there seems to be a lot of groups there to watch the comedians. Word of advise though try not to fit at the front because they really go to town on some poor unfortunate unsuspecting people
