As Sam R points out, Nevisport is one of several similar large shops on Deansgate, which would seem to be «outdoor gear central» for Manchester. With so many outdoor gear product lines on the market these days, there is something to be said for having a look at what a few of them have to offer before buying. Nevisport strikes me as a bit more«technical» than nearby Blacks, and maybe the gear stocked here includes some more high-end stuff. Unique things I noticed in Nevisport were merino wool base layers, funky sledges(a novelty item, but still innovatively designed) and unique camp cooking items. I walked out of here with a £5 fire steel — and I am looking forward to Lighting My Fire… once I’ve figured it out! Male staff seem to outnumber female staff here, including some reassuringly grizzled-looking characters. All-in-all, a solid shop for a technical product range.

And yet another mountaineering shop on Deansgate! Nevisport is just like all the others in that it’s rammed full of quality hiking gear. As far the ground for, that seemingly means loads and loads and loads of jackets of all colours, ranging from bog standard ones for £100 to ones that costs hundreds and hundreds of pounds that you could probably climb Everest in. Just like every other outdoor shop on Deansgate, the serious gear is all downstairs in the basement. They have a good range of ski stuff which marks them out from the crowd, as well as all the standard climbing and camping gear. The staff in Nevisport are cool and friendly. Good shop.

Nevisport specialises in berghaus gear, which is good gear, if you’re in the know(wink wink). Indeed next to mountain equipment I believe they develop some of the best bits money can buy. This shop is no exception with a huge range of parts and equipment spanning two mahoosive floors. The staff can chat to you for days about carabineers and ropes and all that sad crap. Shift away from the intense nerdyness though and nevisport has good quality raincoats and stuff to keep you toasty during this time of extreme weather warnings. Amazing.
