Be warned: when you cross the threshold you’ll probably start humming the lyrics to ‘The Candy Man’ from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, ‘Sugar, Sugar’ by The Archies or ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ by Def Leppard… Though the first impression is that you’re inside an independent, old fashioned shop, they’re actually a national franchise of 100 stores which first started trading in 2004. Their stock is somewhat overwhelming — shelves upon shelves and racks upon racks of traditional and contemporary sweets, chocolate, liquorice, mints and marshmallows. If you need some help the staff are more than happy to assist — I was wanting something specific I remembered having loads of as a kid and described it(poorly) to them before they instantly replied with the answer — it was chewing nuts. As you can probably imagine these kind of shops are very popular, so during busy times it’s not a relaxing place to be to peruse the produce at your leisure. To my delight, I recently happened upon a franchise much closer to home, so will be raiding their pick and mix selection as soon as I get the chance. Tip: you can also buy American candy(such as Hershey’s), root beer, soda and cereals here.

This little gem candy shop is situated in st anns square it as every kind of sweet imaginable from those that make your teeth fall out to soft chocolate and candy and my favourite fudge. its a place i would go to if i wanted to buy some thing diffrent rather than buy a box of chocolates from thorntons. displayed from one corner of the shop to another you could spend half a hour or so looking which ones to buy. I didnt get my self anything this times as i would of finished the whole lot off and put two pounds on then i would of had to go to gym and spend a fiver and a hour or so getting the weight back off. lol!

I don’t like sweets, nevertheless, I was magnetically attracted by this candy shop. The inside is quite traditional and you feel like in an Harry potter like shop. From jelly beans to chocolate, you’ll find there everything you want. I really liked the dark atmosphere, the diversity of choice, especially in the Halloween atmosphere !

Oh Jesus, I almost wish this place didn’t exist! For me, stepping inside this treasure trove of tooth-rotting loveliness is like rewinding back to the late 80s /early 90s and rediscovering my favourite childhood treats. From the over-the-counter penny sweets and packs of Nerds and Dweebs to the Refresher bars and boxes of Hello Panda biscuits, this shop is packed, wall-to-wall with a lot of the things that have contributed to my many trips to the dentist over the years. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still have a soft spot for them! Mr Simm’s also offers more ‘old skool’ confectionery — jars of humbugs, liquorice, toffee, all the sweets your Grandma had in the cupboard, basically. The one thing I always buy from here though, is the strawberries and champagne chocolate, covered in pink edible glitter. Man, this stuff is so tasty! And it looks sexy too. These bars of chocolate can be found towards the back of the shop, on the right hand side and come in all sorts of amazing flavours. They cost around £4 each so they’re not exactly cheap but they’re great to give to someone as part of a birthday present or stocking filler, mainly because they look so damn good! This shop is a little gem and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone with a sweet tooth or passion for the confectionery of a bygone era.

Wen I discovered this place I went to heaven! Finally somewhere with proper Danish liquorice! It comes at a price but sometimes you have to spoil yourself. The place is always busy but staff always friendly and helpful.
