Jaz’s Moneysaver

The amount of times the place has bailed me out of a sticky situation — printer paper just before a deadline, brillo pads just before a flat inspection, a bottle of coke just before a night out — it should be called Jaz’s lifesaver. The shop sells what in Edwardian times might have been called sundries — the things you don’t realise you need until you find you don’t have them. Whether it’s a laundry basket or toilet paper or a mop or even just some lovely chocolatey goodness Jaz is on hand to dispense it with a broad grin and a comment about the «bloody weather, recently». It is telling of just how friendly Jaz really is that he talks to you like an old friend whether it’s your first of fortieth time in his little shop of utterly needful things. Check out the multipacks of crisps on offer — monster munch, skips; the lot — and his three fizzy cans or four chocolate bars for £1. Fantastic.

When I moved into Victoria Park area, I was horrified at how deserted this place could be! And then I met Jaz! Jaz’s has literally everything and anything you’d want to find all for ONE pound! It has kitchen essentials, sewing kits, tools, stationary, lights, Christmas decorations, drinks, juices, chocolates, make-​up, jewellery, smokes, lights, calling cards, ice-​trays, shelves, bins, laundry baskets, tables, chairs and the list could just go on and on! I’d say it even tops the pound stores all around town! Jaz himself is very helpful and jovial and keeps you well informed about any query you may have. It’s definitely a wonder to find in Victoria Park side and Jaz’s presence keeps all happy and satisfied!

This shop is amazing. That’s solely down to Jaz and his wife who own the place and are also the only people who you’ll find working there.
When I lived in Victoria Park I would always pop in and see Jaz on my way home from uni. He always recognised me and had something to chat about. He sells everything you’d expect to find in a discount store — 4 cans of pop for £1, chocolate bars, laundry baskets, clothes airers, Christmas decorations, pens, notebooks, loo roll… I’ve actually bought all of the aforementioned goodies here and they are of surprisingly good quality. I bought a dirty washing basket from here for £1 in 2005 and it’s still going strong!
On more than one occasion Jaz has offered to pick me and my friends whatever we wanted up from the cash and carry and he’s even requested our advice on pricing. Once he asked me how much I’d be willing to pay for a horrid talking Christmas tree. Not wanting to offend him, I told him I’d pay £5, which I think was a bit ambitious.
Top marks to Jaz for providing an excellent level of customer service for the local students and families in the otherwise deserted Vicky Park.
