Just so you know, Yo-Sushi and Greggs are huge chains in UK. I saw several of them while I was there. Greggs is an acceptable bakery.

I had no idea what a pasty was before I went to Gregg’s. Being a Yank definitely has its disadvantages; don’t let all that American exceptionalism nonsense certain Yanks like to brag about fool you(i.e. Sarah Palin) we DO have our weaknesses. And it seems Gregg’s might become one of mine, even though it’s my understanding that it’s a bit trashy. I still don’t know for sure — you Brits love to take the piss any chance you get. Just kidding, I know it’s trashy. But I love it anyway. I have a bad habit of perpetually falling for anything Limited Edition. Maybe I’m genetically predisposed to clever marketing techniques. Maybe I’m secretly an uberconsumer despite my strict Marxist upbringing. At any rate, the Limited Edition Chicken Curry pasty is to die for. I’m telling you, you’d better get your mitts on one before they’re all gone — or before I get them all and never give you a chance to. Seriously delectable in the naughtiest of ways. You know you’re eating something that is just terrible for you on all counts(and you might even have to pay for it in the toilet later) but you really just can’t resist. Chicken. Curry. Pasty. Eat it now, people. I command you! My final words: Gregg’s is good for what ails you, if what ails you happens to be hunger, lack of time, and skint pockets. And that seems to be a lot of us these days, so keep it up Gregg’s. We’re lovingg it.

Massive queue. All the time. I don’t have enough patience. Plus, I don’t like it that much. They are fresh, and they are cheap and the staff is alright but I don’t know. Something is missing. Or sometimes they are extra staff that I don’t like. For instance, the only sandwich that is appealing to me, is the one that happens to have some mayo inside. And I don’t like mayo. If I find a ham and cheese sandwich I don’t find anything else like some mustard, or some pickle or something, anything. They never had something for me to make me happy entirely. Always plus/minus. The good thing is that the queue disappears really fast. You won’t find yourself sitting in there for more than 5 minutes, which is a good thing. Unfortunately because I’m in a rush all the time, it’s quite hard for me to visit the place too often.

I know, I know — Greggs. Hardly original. Greggs is one of the ultimate student standbys in Manchester. For those of us who live on a certain budget, Greggs is one of the best inventions ever. My flatmates would not live without it. Seriously. The very idea upsets them. Greggs, although unhealthy and identical wherever you go, offers a certain style of food at a very reasonable price, and always fulfils your expectations of it. The best thing, for me, about Greggs is the Steak Bakes. Whatever might be said about Greggs, I don’t want to hear a bad thing said about their Steak Bakes because they rule. They are also damn tasty when you are in a rush to the Uni or racing to get to the cinema in time. People don’t expect much from Greggs. It isn’t Michelin-starred, it isn’t in a fancy restaurant or advertised with a spangly menu. You are not going to get a 3 course meal here. And that is why, in my opinion, why people keep going back. Honest comfort food still has its place today. Long live Greggs in all its unhealthy glory!

Feeling hungry but you’ve just got a quid left with you? Greggs it is! The pepperoni pizza should do the trick! It always has your back! Greggs as anyone knows of it is full of bakes, some pizza slices and pies. The desserts make the best of this place. Cookies in its best form! White, chocolatey or nutty, anything you prefer! Fancy great looking, creamy cupcakes? Fresh one’s await you at the Greggs here and never fail to make you wonder of a second helping! I’m glad Greggs exist in every corner you look at!

Greggs is the one stop pasty shop! No one ever expects anything in Greggs to be healthy, and thus to proclaim otherwise would be pointless and fruitless, and to fake incredulity at not finding a tofu high fibre salad in themiddle of Greggs, well boo hoo you. You don’t come to Greggs for the finer things in life, you come to Greggs because you’re in a mad rush either to the train station or from the train station, you come to Greggs because you’re running late for a meeting and you haven’t eaten, you’ve forgotten your lunch and you’re due in your next meeting in ten minutes, so on and so forth. No one thinks to themselves, I’ve got two hours spare I’ll spend them at Greggs, and whilst we all moan that they are everywhere, we are all at some point grateful that they are. For a dirty cheese and onion pasty, which ps i haven’t found anyone to rival a Greggs cheese and onion… be they a swanky pasty place or one of those supermarket finest jobbies… or a dirty vanilla slice. Dirty, cheap and convenient naughty food on the go. You’re everywhere and we secretly love it.
