Been here twice now for all over color. I am used to Aveda(coming from the US) so I had to try it out. My second experience was a lot better than my first. My first wasn’t bad though. I came in for all over color and highlight(requiring bleach). Midway through, my colorist had another appointment so I got an intern. She finished my hair and all seemed okay. However, when I went home(I have dark hair) I noticed a huge patch of yellow/blonde in my black hair that they didn’t cover up. Also, as my boyfriend nicely pointed out, they color my sideburns a little too much and now part of my cheek peach fuzz is black. I went in to have the bleached corrected and the colorist corrected it no problem. My second time I just did an all over color and it was a fine experience! Nothing bad this time! One thing I miss about Aveda back home is there Aveda tea and they give you a free hand massage while your hair is getting dyed. They say they give free hang massages online but I’ve never been offered one. I’ll continue to go cause its close and the girl who does my hair is pleasant.

The first time I had my hair cut at Fretwell Bennett, I was lucky enough to have my fringe trimmed by a trainee who informed me that I couldn’t have too chunky a fringe because ‘my face was well fat, innit’. Charming girl. After such an experience, you could be forgiven for thinking that I was a bit mental to return to such an establishment. But, I did. Probably because the haircut they offered to cut my mop for free, and I’m a sucker for anything which costs me no pounds. What I left with was an elegant little feather cut which not only flattered my face, but also managed to make me look attractive and elegant. Even better, the lady who cut my hair this time around was lovely — chatty, friendly and funny, she really went out of her way to see what I wanted from my haircut and gave me some great advice on how to style it appropriately without trying to flog me numerous overpriced products. I left the salon feeling like a million quid, and would have returned to Fretwell Bennett again and again if I’d been able to afford their services. Haircuts here do tend to be on the pricey side(starting at £40 for a Cut and Finish), but they do have a few students in from time to time looking for models, so if you play your cards right you might be able to pick up a gorgeous free haircut. I’ve recommended Fretwell Bennett to numerous people since my initial haircut there and they’ll all left feeling very satisfied indeed. My Mum now refuses to go to any other salon. You should definitely try out their services for yourself if you’re feeling flush and need to have your ‘ears lowered’. Of all the various hairdressing establishments in the city centre, this is definitely one of the best.

As promised, une update de la colourist dans Fretwell Bennet, oui? Oui. Well, boys and girls. This little piggy didn’t go blonde, but she did go a helllllllluva lot darker, at the capable hands of Adam. From the moment I stepped foot back into FB, I was even more well-taken-care-of than the first time. While I waited for Adam to finish up someone else, I read an actual current copy of Glamour, and was given a free fringe trim and tidy-up. And then Adam did my hair. Adam is one of the most fun hairdressers I have ever encountered. Funny, sharp and with a definite wild streak. He tried to get me to go for some kind of crazy colour flash, but finally acccepted that I wanted to go for the deepest dark brown instead. He helped me choose the best possible shade, taking into account my skin and eye colours(as usual) and also my natural *lip* colour! That’s some colour consultation, non? The resultant colour is possibly the best I have ever had, and certainly buries dead my relationship with Razors Edge. Though it’s just one colour with no extra tones put in, Adam worked the colour and application to accentuate the natural tones in my hair, and it’s a flawless job. A full head tint costs £42 with Adam, and it’ll be the best £42 your hair has ever had spent on it.
