Down to a zero star after the worst experience in here tonight. A vinegary, watery sauce came with the birianyi which was not the same as usual. When the check back was done the manager ignored me and only asked my partner how his meal was. When someone finally appeared to clear our plates after a very long wait I brought up the unbeaten meal. The staff were completely uninterested and actually argued back about the situation. The dish was left on the bill despite it not being eaten. Avoid this awful place. So disappointed, we won’t bother going here again.

Had an amazing meal at Coriander last night. We arrived on route home from the Chorlton Beer Festival and we were starving but so glad we chose Coriander as it didn’t disappoint. We began with the usual Indian staple poppadums which certainly filled a hole. The pickle tray had a good balance of dips and all were filled generously so we didn’t run out of mango chutney before we had finished our last poppadum. The selection of curries on the menu weren’t your typical ones which was great as it’s nice to try something different. I had the coriander and lemon dhal and my companion had the banana bhuna. Both were amazing. The dhal was so fresh, nicely presented and the flavours were very delicate. The banana bhuna was a bit of a risk but it tasted good with just the right amount of spice. The rice and nan were also of a high quality. The service is efficient here but not overly friendly but the excellent food makes it worth a visit.

This place has been on my list for some time. I have to say I think it’s really lovely! The curry is not your typical bashed out madras etc. Instead you have some finely thought out dishes made with pride. I had the Coriander special Lamb which was beautiful, really authentic with a suggestion of something you might in Greek or Turkish food — a stifado maybe. We also shared the butter chicken, which as a staple for English curries had actually been tweaked quite alot! It was sweet and tamarind(y) with little pops of cardamoms and cloves. Really nice. My advice would be to get that one and share it, too intense for a full plate. The chapati are tiny, get a few, or play safe with Naan. Don’t miss out on this place, the food is clearly above standard!

So Coriander, I think I like you. I’m not sure if I should feel bad giving you 3 stars, it’s one of those wierd things in the world where you almost feel bad for saying something is ok. Ok is ok, it’s not bad. But we almost find ourselves in the world now where unless you say ‘ZOMGTHISMADEMYHEADEXPLODEINHAPPINESS’ then the place must be bad. So Coriander you’re ok and it’s not a bad thing. Food was interesting, it’s the first time I’d been for a curry where Duck was on the menu so I had to give that a go. It was hotter than I would normally go for, possibly should have had a closer look at the menu before I ordered, but the meat was delicious. Service was ok, the place wasn’t busy so there was good oppurtunity for very good service. Food took a reasonable amount of time to arrive, which would suggest it was cooked fresh so positive there. Soft drinks seemed pricey, beer standard prices

Went for a friends birthday the other week here. It was a fairly large group of about 20 people. While we decided what to eat, we got the usual chutney tray and poppadoms. Not much to say about poppadoms and chutney — you can’t really have a brilliant or rubbish one. If critical, I guess the poppadoms could have been a bit more crunchy. After taking all the orders, he then confirmed every dish. Everyone had to listen up and make sure the correct things were ordered. I guess it made sure that the correct things were ordered and no mistakes were made. The actual curry was OK. Nothing special. One of my friends had a «special» korma — which looks rather pale. We also were not too sure the difference between the special and the«normal» korma. One of my friends ordered chicken and one it came, was a bit worried with how it looked — kind of pink. Sent it back and got a replacement. Not really ideal. One thing I did notice during the evening was quite a few waiters/waitresses seems to be dropping things when coming out of the kitchen. You may expect it once but was about 3 – 4 times.

We’d been having a hell of a lot of fun on that day at the Chorlton Love Beer Festival which unfortunately was not as attended as it deserved. But came a time when food was needed and it felt like an old fashion curry would sort us out. Manchester CM Jonny Q suggested Coriander and like him I’m sure I heard somewhere it was supposed to be decent but it turned out to be pretty disappointing. To start with, they have(had) an issue with their licence which means they couldn’t serve any alcohol, not a biggy, we got some beers from the Co-op. But the food was the big let down. I don’t think I could have told the difference between our 3 dishes and they were, on the paper, supposed to be very different. Having read reviews on bolgs, it must have been because of the busy Saturday night but it does not tempt me to go back I’m afraid. It’s also pretty dark in there. It’s all neon like tuned-up cars in Fast and Furious but you can barely see what you eat. Maybe it’s better during the week.

Now a new Corriander restaurant has opened closer in towards chorlton, we tend to just get take-out from here. Always really good though. Recently took my daughter with me to collect the food, a Tikka Masalla and a Passanda if my memory serves me well enough. The staff were lovely and accommodating, and didn’t even mind that, while we waited a couple of minutes for the final dish to cook, my daughter conducted a Job interview for me for the role of her parent. I have to say, while it was touch and go at times, but fortunately, I did eventually land the job. Anyway, The taste of the Corriander take-away was great. Well balanced flavours, sometimes a curry-house can go a bit heavy on the spice and there’s occasionally a sharpness to some of the dishes OR they go too heavy on the cream /coconut in the creamy dishes. Not-so Corriander. Really good, rich yet defined flavour, good texture to the meat, not over-cooked or dry, but succulent and juicy. They always put plenty of meat in as well, again a problem with some of the take-aways bing mean with their quantities of chicken or lamb. Overall, we’ll go back time and time again, when we can afford it, because unfortunately, they do charge a bit more than average.(Sorry, loose a star for that in the middle of a recession!!)

Ignore the idiot who gave it one star. Superb Bengali food. Not much atmosphere if you’re dining in, but super for a take-away. Friendly service and beautifully presented food.

This place will blow you away! they cook everything using fresh ingredients and no colourings! The flavours were superb and I am so pleased I have found one of the best curry houses in Manchester! The service was impeccable, they made sure we were looked after. Popoadums were light and fresh with dips that were fantastically tasty! If only they would move to chorlton so more could enjoy, but for now it’s a reasonably well kept secret!

Don’t expect a table cloth. Do expect yummy curry. I got back from Coriander over an hour ago and I’m struggling to sit or lie down as my stomach is still full of Coriander’s special ponir(paneer) curry, cheese and coconut naan and pilau rice. Full in a good way. My boyfriend and his Dad both enjoyed their chicken curries and we all commented how much more we enjoyed this meal than a curry mile curry. The staff were amiable, and curious as to what our opinions of the restaurant were, as they commented that they hadn’t seen us before(this place must have a solid set of regulars). The only downsides to this restaurant are the location(a bit of a walk from both Chorlton and Didsbury, and opposite the cemetery) and the outdated décor.

This authentic Bangladeshi and Indian restaurant was recommended to me by a friend during a conversation i was having about the curry mile«there is a rather brilliant little Indian in Chorlton, and you can print off special offers on their website» she said! So last weekend i paid Coriander a visit, the décor is rather 70’s but luckily i had read the menu on-line and knew i had not just walked into yet another Indian that offers the same old same old menu that most in Rusholme do. The large group i had gone with booked our table, and upon arriving until leaving the service was prompt and considerate without making us feel in a hurry. All the meals arrived at the same time, and mind-blowingly delicious(yes we all dipped into each others dish as standard on a girly night out). I would recommend the Coriander Special Dal £7.20, Chicken Shaslic £8.90 and the Sag Alloo which was delicious and always my benchmark of finding a gem of a restaurant when it comes to Indian cuisine.

Thanks to imgiseverything, I thought I would try this. Have to totally agree, a great place. And yes a lot better than the Curry Mile. I’ll certainly go back.

My favourite Curry house in Manchester. Do not by fooled by the 1970s décor this place is awesome. An Authentic Bangladeshi/Indian restaurant this is not at all like the stuff on offer at Curry Mile — every meal on the menu is delicious. We even converted a friend of ours who hated curry since forever to a curry fiend after a visit to this place.
