reply to rachaelm349 Having read your complaint, i felt compelled to reply. I am proud to say i work under the umbrella of Chambers Hair Design., as a freelance stylist as we all do. I am sorry that you were unhappy with your visit to Chambers. We are a bustling salon in the heart of Manchester and as such we have moments where it may seem chaotic but as vastly experienced stylists we all remain friendly and professional. I am sure you appreciate working with the public timings may run amiss sometimes, clients arrive a few minutes late, may ask for additional services, and have thicker hair than expected, all of which can throw timings out. We try to accomodate clients needs as you were in for a full set of highlights, treatments and a cut and blow. These services would take between 3 – 3 and a half hours, spending 4 hours on a busy saturday does not seem unreasonable. As independent traders we are all responsible for our own appointments and are under no pressure to take more clients we feel we can cope with. The management are owners of the salon and as such are landlords not employers. I dont feel i can address the issue of your hair as although i saw you as you were leaving i dont know what you asked for or the condition of your hair prior to your visit, all i do know is it looked lovely when you left the salon. Overly developed colour in no way would turn hair blonde to black, or make the hair smell burnt. Yes the salon is small but we have a great team and a loyal clientele, it shows we’re good… we’re busy…

I will start by saying that my stylist was lovely and that the staff seem very talented. However I have never seen so many stylists and clients crammed into such a small salon, and whoever books the appointments has vastly underestimated the amount of time that each one will take. I was moved from my chair to the sofa in the waiting area whilst my highlights were developing because the chair was needed for another client. I was in the salon for over 4 hours and a good hour, if not more, was spent waiting around with wet hair. It was more than half an hour after my treatment had been removed that my first stylist was finally able to cut my hair, but I was then moved into the waiting area as my chair was needed again, whilst I waited another half hour for another member of staff to blow dry my hair. By the time she was finished with her client, my hair was dry already. On first glance, I was very happy with the cut and colour, however I was extremely dissatisfied about how long I had to wait and the fact that nobody apologised for this until I chose to make a complaint. My stylist was very understanding, however when I requested to speak to a member of management about it, I was met with extremely poor customer service skills and a shockingly obnoxious manner. The manager informed me that I could see it was a busy day, and that my wait was comparable to having to wait 45 minutes for a table in a restaurant and could happen in any business. He did say he was sorry that I felt dissatisfied but that he had never had a complaint before and that there was nothing he could do. He accused me of contradicting myself several times when I told him I felt they were trying to get as many clients in and out the door as they could and booking too many appointments in at similar times, resulting in clients having to wait around and the staff being overworked. He replied ‘if we were trying to get people in and out you wouldn’t have been here for four hours’, and also told me that i was contradicting myself because the time i was spending talking to him was making his next client have to wait. The atmosphere was chaotic as the staff had far too many clients to deal with in too short a space of time, and the design of the salon is very cramped. On my way home, I noticed that my hair was very dry, even after having a moisture treatment. I ran my fingers through it to find that bits were snapping off, it had a burnt smell to it and parts of the hair that were supposed to be blonde were black. I am sure that this was due to me being forgotten about whilst my colour was developing, and the bleach being left on my hair for too long. The staff do the best job they possibly can, but the place is so poorly run that I would not recommend anybody to visit until management rethink their attitude to customer service and consider the clients’ experience at the salon, rather than just getting money in the till.

First visit to this hairdressers was fab — 25% off for new clients, and I really felt my hairdresser took an interest, taking her time to get the cut just right. Was even given a card for 25% off my next visit as well! However, 3rd time was unlucky. It took over 3 hours to get a trim and a tint — my hairdresser had evidently gotten a lot more popular since the first visit and was juggling many clients at once. Not great when you’ve other stuff you’d like to squeeze into your Saturday afternoon. Overall, staff seem talented, prices are what you’d expect in a city centre hairdressers — just beware a long wait at the weekends!
