The shop itself is a bit chaotic but definitely worth it for the food. We both got the jerk chicken with rice and peas, plantains and gravy. It didn’t take long although I was just never really sure if I was being served or not, very confusing. We took it home(or rather, to Natalie W’s home, where we were living at the time) and tucked in. The chicken itself was great, there was loads of rice and peas, and the plantains were delicious. As I was feeling greedy I scarfed the lot but with a more moderate appetite I could definitely have got two meals out of it. If this place was any closer to my house I’d be at risk of turning into jerk chicken, let’s put it that way.

The staff in Buzzrocks are super friendly and welcoming which goes well with their menu, which is perfect comfort food. The fried chicken was delicious and was a very generous portion. The plantains were my favourite though — gorgeous! Will definitely be coming back here. Update…I’ve been back an unhealthy number of times as you can see from my check in count. I basically always order the jerk chicken special(leg I think is tastier) with a full plantain and an extra pot of gravy. The gravy is utterly divine, rich, spicy, it’s one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. Buzzrocks forever! You can buy a full chicken which is great for a big group/party…everyone that tried it loved it!

Buzz is no longer ‘in the chair’(young guy now in charge of the kitchen has done a fair stint and he’s carrying on the tradition well) — the food remains superb. Had jerk chicken, r&p, curry sauce and a dumpling. Feel-good. Belly full. Service better than ever. And ever-so-slightly longer opening hours. Hulme’s best takeaway. A business which is a credit to the area.

Alfie’s right, there aren’t very many Caribbean takeaways in Manchester. In fact, I’ve never found another Caribbean takeaway in Manchester yet. It’s a good thing, then, that Buzzrocks is a fantastic takeaway that aptly shows off the Caribbean cuisine. The prices are great, and only serve to entice one in even more. It’s the sort of place you’ll visit again and again if possible just to try the various dishes on offer. The ‘£2 to go’ menu is a welcome addition as well, only adding to the fun. The bottom line is visit, I don’t believe I really had to spell that out for you.

Can’t think what you fancy? Fed up of the standard take-away foods of Pizza, Curry and Chinese? Perhaps you’re craving take-away Caribbean? If you are, you won’t have many options, so Buzzrocks is the place for you! I don’t know any other Carribean take-aways to compare it to, but this place is excellent. It serves Jamaican and Caribbean classics such as Jerk Chicken, Curried Goat and Callaloo Saltfish, all for around £5 and all served with awesome rice ‘n’ peas or less exciting boiled rice if you aren’t very adventurous. It has vegetarian options, which I’m told are excellent(I personally have always chosen goat or saltfish). Additionally, they have a menu entitled ‘only 2 pound to go’ if you want to pick up a quick snack on the way past or stock up the fridge with delicious Caribbean treats. This menu includes fried dumplings, plantain and a range of patties(beef, chicken, lamb and fish) which are personally my favourite, all for £1. They also do a good portion of northern chips and gravy with a Caribbean twist for just £2. They even do Jamaican deserts. It does have space to sit down if you want to eat there, and though its standard take-away plastic seats, it’s perfectly pleasant. It’s not as far from Oxford Road as you might think, and well worth a visit. They are also available as caterers for events. Also, Guinness Punch, if you want to find out what it is, go pay them a visit…

I am v. lucky to live nearby this gem of a take-away! If you fancy a change to the usual fish and chips(which would be fortunate, as Hulme isn’t exactly over-flowing with traditional chip shops), then this is your place. You def have to try the goat curry, the meat is sooo tender and tasty — however get there early, it is sold out before 6 most days. Also good is the oxtail curry, and the fried chicken and Carribean ‘gravy’, all served with rice ‘n peas. Oh and as for beverages — I have no idea quite what is in it, but the Carribean Punch is mighty lovely!

Buzzrocks is one of the few carribean takeaways in Manchester and I am fortunate enough to live very nearby in the(not too nice but slowly regenerating) ‘Hulme’. My usual tipple is the fried chicken with curry sauce, its soooooooo supertasty! I usually mix it with noodles cooked at home and they go together very well indeed. Another special dish is the curried goat, I had never tried goat before so it was novel but I really enjoyed it. In terms of the experience of visiting Buzzrocks its totally different from any other take-away I’ve been to. There is always some reggae or hip hop playing which seems to breathe a lot of life into the place. If you get a chance to catch the older guy with the massive rasta hair to cook you up some chicken its quite a sight to see! The pound menu is a great value for money, you can patties and portions of chicken etc for only a quid! get there before 7pm though cause the food gets snapped up real quick. They usually have fried chicken on the go until about 8pm and I think they close soon after. Worth a wee toddle down if you fancy a change with a charge to the tastebuds.
