The Blue Bell is a Sam Smith pub a 5 – 10 minute walk off the main Stockport Rd corridor of Levenshulme, situated near a park and opposite the swimming baths — it’s not in a bad spot actually and is smart if a bit dated in it’s interior(I really like the outside of the building). As it’s a Sam Smith pub it means that the beer is cheap, with no brand names you’ll recognise, but own brand approximations of everything you could imagine — most of it being pretty good, and the relatively expensive bottled beers being very good indeed — try the Oatmeal Stout at a local’s eye popping £3.80, it’s great. The Blue Bell is split into 2 main rooms, with an additional comfy lounge with fire and a small beer garden out the back looking out onto the park — it’s a decent spot for a pint and always seems to have a respectable number of locals having a drink keeping the usually lone barman on his toes in the central bar splitting the two main rooms. I don’t recall there ever being any entertainment on, certainly when I’ve been, but there’s definitely a vibe of community here, even if it’s nowhere near as raucous as Fiddler’s Green can be on a Gaelic match day. Levy isn’t blessed with many good pubs, but I have no hesitation on recommending The Blue Bell to people that are new to the area and maybe a bit apprehensive about trying the pubs — it’s a decent spot and a cheap pint too, what’s not to like?
