A consistent problem with many of the Beech Rd eateries is well consistency. Not the case here. This is where we’ve been going when we’re too lazy to cook. About once a fortnight for the last 3 months. it’s 3 minutes’ walk from home. There’s a standard menu of small dishes and always a choice of about 4 starters and 4 main specials. Different every time we go and always imaginative. About £30 for two mains + wine. Virtually always well cooked and decent service. Totally reliable. Ïf the chicken, haggis and whisky special is on then order it. Please! A gem. some other Beech Rd venues can be on/off. Not this one.

New-ish little bistro on Beech Road opposite the Lead Station(think it used to be called Mink). The menu started was split into Smaller Bites — mostly tapas-style starters, and Bigger Bites, meaning the main course. I was just there for a light tea so we only had olives and ciabatta from the Smaller Bites, these came in generous portions and were very tasty. From the Bigger Bites, I went for the chargrilled chicken, which was effectively a warm salad with rocket, celery and red pepper amongst other things, while my girlfriend went for fillets of seabass with tomato and chorizo — both dishes were well cooked and seasoned and came with a big bowl of hand-cut chips, we didn’t leave any of it! Bill was about £32 for the above plus two soft drinks and a beer, which isn’t bad. Certainly well worth a visit if you’re in the area
