Had my birthday party here before and was not disappointed! £1 shots and free hire of the upstairs room– what more would you want? Not the place for a quiet pint as is very much a partying place but perfect if you want a big night out in fallowfield! Quite studenty but that is to be expected in somewhere like fallowfield!

This usually student bar/nightclub provides a good night out on mostly all weekdays and definitely on weekends. Its drink speciality is of the shooter variety, boasting a variety of over 30 different alcoholic spirit shots, where the combination of either whisky/irish cream/vodka/curacao/rum/gin/soft drinks for only £1 each provides the drunken student with all that they need for a good night. Of course, all other well-known bar-based alcoholic beverage is available to for slightly lower prices than other bars surrounding the halls in Fallowfield, yet the atmosphere on its upper floors of a nightclub draw in the students week in week out for pre-drinks or for a full-blown night out. Personally, I have enjoyed myself here most times I’ve turned up however it can sometimes be very dead at times but when busy, the buzz is definitely recommended!

I love Baa Bar if nothing more than for it’s name.(Tell me it isn’t fun saying Baaaaaah Bar after a couple drinks!) The place is lovely inside and really a step up from its surroundings. Drinks are fun and imaginative, and it’s not terribly expensive. The place can get packed pretty quickly as it’s tiny and the area is obviously packed with students stalking alcohol like it’s key to their surviving the next 10 minutes — which, granted, for many it probably is.

If you want a great nice out and a spot to meet your pals for a drink and a rave, this isn’t too bad of a place to be at all! Prices are affordable, environment is confortable and music choice was right up my street. A really lively place on a saturday night and my mates and I even met some really great people who we got along with straight away and parties with =D

It is so loud in here. I like Bar Baa as a brand — they’re lively and friendly and if you go on the right night then you can get a shot and a beer for under £2; winner. I rejoiced in the final year of my degree when the Fallowfield branch was opened, finally something worth going to instead of the parody of a joke of bar that was ‘Glass’. Unfortunately, it is just far too loud. Maybe I’m just getting old and I’m pouring all my scorn onto it for that reason but if you’re in a bar then you want to be able to hear the person sat next to or directly opposite you — I think that’s a universally accepted truth. Upstairs in the club area is a little better, after all the volume of the music suits this environment better. Also in Bar Baa’s favour is it’s late opening hours — 2am on a Wednesday in Fallowfield and you want to dance? Then come here, where any night of the week you can move your feet and shake your silhouette in front of the giant bank of coloured lights lining the far wall — just don’t expect it to find very many other people doing the same.

Not bad. Not good. The plus sides of this place are numerous. You can get a shot for £1 and there are about 100 different flavours. Its pretty exciting to choose from the list and see them being made. Very colourful. They also do a deal where for an extra 50p you can get a bottle of beer with it as well. This makes Baa Bar a great place to pop in for a swift one on the way out. Also, its got some very colourful décor including a whole wall made out of lights. This is good. So to the downsides. These shots, though only a pound so one cant complain too much, dont contain a shots worth of alcohol. They compensate for this with sugary syrup but this tastes poor. Also, its never busy and its far too loud. Note: They have a free cash point and the cash points in Fallowfield always have huge queues, so if you pop in for one you can save yourself the waiting time as well.

BaaBar in Fallowfield is Student HQ. Of all of the venues my friends and I have frequented in Fallowfield, we always run into people we know in BaaBar. Unlike its smaller sibling on Canal Street, this BaaBar is huge, and definitely prepared for the student horde. Students love this place. Whether they stay for 10 minutes or an hour, nearly every student in Manchester have stepped into this bar at some point in their time spent in the city. Despite its consistent popularity, it is not as fun as the Canal Street BaaBar. The upstairs bar is always full, crammed to breaking point, and ordering a drink feels rushed and hassled. It is near impossible to move through the dance floor carrying a drink without getting jostled and spilling it all over the floor. The same BaaBar essence is present, from the walls made of LED lights to the BaaBar shooters, but the fun, which is injected into the Canal Street branch, does not seem as vivid here. The deal breaker for us, is that whenever my friends and I visit this BaaBar — our night always ends soon after. Still, it is one of the better bars in the Fallowfield area, and worth a trip on an evening out. It is well priced, reliable and consistent. However, unlike the Canal Street BaaBar, it just isn’t special.

Here’s another Fallowfield institution. A structure made of glass and steel, it used to be called Glass(why they didn’t call it Glass and Steel I have no idea, it’s such a catchy name… sense the sarcastic tone), and this three floored venue has had a huge refit and gained popularity as a result. It’s one of those ‘meh’ places, perhaps not ‘meh’ enough to warrant a harsh two stars as it has a superb outside balcony feature for those sun-drenched afternoons and Smoky Joes. Plus the drinks are cheap. Of course they are, it’s a Baa Bar. Winner. You’ll get the odd club night here but it seems to have entered the collective consciousness as a venue for ‘pre-drink drinks’. And hey, they have a place. I bet if we put together a list of pre-drinks drinks places we’d end up with something colossal. The music’s not exactly my cup of tea with all that jungle, drum n’ bass and underground dance(I’m making myself sound old, I must stop) but if that floats your boat then this place will too. A worthy Fallowfield contender.

Although I’ve only just passed my quarter century, I feel very old when I go to Baa Bar. The flash of neon and pounding basslines hit you before you’ve barely stepped through the front door and there’s often a huge sea of people spilling onto the street outside. But if you can cope with the chaos, this bar has lots to offer! It has a cool interior that fuses cool New York minimalism with some bright, quirky touches, including a huge wall of Rainbow lights that makes the whole bar glow. It’s a glass fronted building, too. So if you grab a seat by the window, you can do some great people watching! However, the best thing about Baa Bar is the amazing shooters. They have a huge range of different flavours available, all at reasonable prices. They do some good deals where you can buy a bottle of beer or alcopop with a shooter chaser for about £3, too. Amazing value!

As much as I don’t like Fallowfield and its cheesy student bars(Tarts, I’m looking at you), I don’t actually mind Baa Bar. Although their speciality is the wide variety of luminous(and often disgusting and not particularly alcoholic) shooters, they also do a decent selection of beers which can be enjoyed on the comfy chairs downstairs. Alternatively you can pop in for a couple of £1 shooters before a night out. Crème egg shooter anyone? Upstairs on the middle floor is a bright room with a flashing disco wall made up of coloured squares, which beam out light onto the busy Wilmslow Road attracting plenty of attention to the bar. When I was in the Manchester University ski club, they often hired out the upstairs room for parties, which was a perfect size and location, as well as being free. It holds 120 people.

Baa Bar– A name that every fresher wishes to decipher and also a place that regulars love to crash at for the ever so famous shooters! This small chain has made quite an impact on the student population. This particular Baa Bar in the heart of Fallowfield, not only has a perfect location, with a very visible and huge 3 storied building to its advantage but also the best music amongst all the other Baa Bar’s according to me! The room upstairs has the very illuminating lit up wall which catches my eye every time, I’m a little, let’s say not stable on my feet! It’s not open every night but just certain nights, like weekends to accommodate the rush. The top most floor can be booked for parties and have a super fast alcohol supply! None of us quite like the queuing up, do we now? The ground floor has the very lovely carved windows and a jukebox and an atm inside which is of amazing help at nights when you’re out of cash and the huge poster of shots are still tempting you! It’s a great place Fallowfield has to offer and has my vote for a successful night out, when you just want to go out and have nothing planned!

If you live in Fallowfield as a student and have never visited Baa Bar then I can only imagine you are locked away in a basement somewhere, tearfully carving each day into the cold, stone wall, waiting for the freedom you so richly deserve. Maybe one day you hear footsteps on the flagstones, the crunch of ancient masonry. A key turns in the lock and the oak door swings open, flooding the small room with light. A tall figure stands before you. «Come with me!, he says. He leads you by the hand to a strange place where colours collide and memories end, where it always feels curiously empty but you can never find a seat. He shows you the vibrant drinks selection that seems cheap but always seems to empty your wallet, and the curious third floor that never seems to be open. You gaze at the mystery of the dance floor that never fills, and the small table with a man permanently slumped over it. The smells, the sounds! They merge and swirl in your mind. Then all is quiet. You wake the next day back in your cellar. Alone. Was it only a dream? Will you ever see that man or that place again? Yes. Because you will end up going there every ill-planned night out until the sun collapses and you are dragged screaming into the heart of the resulting vortex. And you will still insist you had a great time.

I suppose Baa Bar’s extensive into student rich Fallowfield was inevitable– students do love their shooters. What wasn’t expected however is how much more subtle and tasteful this one was going to be– it is definitely my favourite of the Manchester trio. I fully expected the marriage between the garish and lairy Baa Bar and Europe’s biggest student population to be unhappy one, full of domestic abuse and adultery– and I think I can be forgiven. And whilst it isn’t exactly mature it certainly is much more refined, and designed with a respectful nod to retro designers such as Verner Panton and Eero Aarnio. The atmosphere is chilled and cool, if it wasn’t called Baa Bar I wouldn’t have made the link. I think the people behind the small but successful chain have this time took much more influence from one of their other Liverpool ventures Tabac, which in my eyes is the best café in the city, with a kitsch and kooky style of it’s own. Oh little Tabac, how I miss thee!

A great bar located bang in the middle of Fallowfield. The bar offers an extensive range of shots and drinks, all at reasonable prices.

Not a fan. Find it rather uncomfortable and just doesn’t work for me. It’s never been somewhere I’ve wanted to stay long. The staff are good, drinks are fine and there’s some good offers on especially during teh week but agree with other reviewer.

Glass just isn’t my kind of place. Basically everything about the place disagrees with me. It’s hard to explain really.
