You’ll find Moot Hall in the heart of Maldon, with its distinctive tower and overhanging clock. Moot Hall was built for the D’Archy family in 1496, and it was used as the seat of local government until 1974. Today you can access Moot Hall via guided tours or on special open house days. Inside you’ll see the original courtroom, created in 1820, and the council chamber. The real star of Moot Hall however is the tower, which offers amazing views across Maldon and the Blackwater estuary. Since Maldon stands atop a hill, the tower lets you see long distances across the area. Lovely, and well worth visiting.
